Do You Know the Groups You’re Posting to? You Should!
Recently I posted to a group (The Art of Marketing You) which I've been a member of, but had never taken the time to read the guidelines. I just assumed the name was self-explanatory - wrong! Apparently I am not a "Sharp Cookie", lol! Don't judge a group based on its name!
Shortly after, my post was booted out of the group. Not sure why, I went to the group and read their guidelines:
**Update: Spam, referral programs, sales pitches (overt or thinly disguised) and posts that have been added or re-posted multiple times will be deleted. Because 99% of the spam is generated by vendors, we are no longer accepting vendors in this group. Moderating spam has become too time consuming.**
Oops, I'd broken the cardinal rule and had done exactly that - I had “overtly” marketed myself.....how embarrassing! However, it got me thinking I should reevaluate some of the groups I belong to and reread their guidelines along with a few posts to get the vibe and personality of the group. Yes, you'll find groups do have a personality.
I left some groups, joined some new groups taking into account that I am a personal home stager along with my personality, blogging style, interests and hobbies. More importantly I know depending on my post’s content which groups to post to and are appropriate for my content.
And yes, I am still a member of "The Art of Marketing You" and will post in the future, however only the right content!
Have you read the guidelines to the groups you're posting to? Are you posting to the most effective groups that will give you good exposure and you'll meet likeminded people? If not, I suggest you do because there are always new and interesting, informative groups popping up on AR and you don't want to miss out....or in my case, mess up!
