Many of you may have already heard of this but apparently I had not. My friend called me and said she had just received a letter from XYZ Mortgage Co. saying that she may be owed some money by her original Mortgage company and that she needed to call them immediately so they could do a Mortgage Audit. It then went on to claim that they weren't a mortgage company and the intent was not to re-finance the current loan. The intent was to get the homeowner some money they might be due.
I told her it sounded fishy and that I had not ever heard of a Mortgage Audit, I then told her to contact her current mortgage company to see if they knew anything about it. But I said before you do that let's just Google it. OH BOY...all kinds of things popped up saying it is a SCAM that crooks are using to eke out poor homeowners who 1) don't know any better and don't check the validity and 2) they are preying on homeowners who may be facing foreclosure. The articles said these scammers often take anywhere from $200 to $7000 of the homeowners money with the promise of we will get you money or we will help you save your home.
Be sure an let all your clients know this is a scam and is fraudulent.
