Power Broker?  Try Flower Broker...

Back in December I sold a really cute bungalow to a builder.  The bungalow, I'm sorry to say, will be replaced with something rather large (I've got a soft spot for older homes). There's a bulldozer waiting in the front yard.

Recently I received a phone call from a neighbor "living near your recent listing on Chestnut".  I like these kind of calls. So, I picked up the phone and called Elana back.  I was expecting a few of the standard questions:

  • what did the house sell for?
  • How long did it take?
  • If my house has an extra bedroom does that mean I'll get more for mine? etc..

Instead, I got:

  • I would feel just awful if some of the plants on the property are destroyed when they raze the house... can I grab a few hydrangeas before they start digging?

So, off I go, tracking down the buyer, making phone calls, making it happen.  It's not exactly productive, nor the best use of my crazy spring market time... but it will help out a neighbor and maybe, just maybe, they'll think of me when they do get around to selling their house.  Sowing the seeds, one at a time.

It is too bad to hear about the house. I love old homes, I wish that more were around like they are in MA.

I love your play on words, Marcie.  And I believe that things like this come back to you in the long run.  We all need to remember that our business is a people and relationship business.  They'll remember you in the best possible way!

So, what is the rest of the story? Can the neighbors save some of the plants?

Yes!  The good news is that everyone was willing to talk, share flowers, and turn it into something nice.  Oh happy day!

Or, Flower Power (O.K., dating myself!)

This was a really nice post.  Great of you to follow up and make things happen for the neighbor, and I can't imagine who the neighbor might think of when real estate needs arise . . . .

Of course, her aunt, brother and boss's wife are all probably Realtors--but if that is the case, I'm thinking you'll get whisked right through Purgatory, with credits paid up from good deeds such as this.
