New Mexico Wilderness, Ted Turner Country!

After several days of camping well off the beaten path in the New Mexico Wilderness it was time to pack it up and head back to Albuquerque.  Debbie and I both were really having a hard time leaving the tranquility and beauty we had found on this particular New Mexico Wilderness camping adventure.  The SUV was finally packed including Dixie dog so we decided to drive around the area one last time.  We found this New Mexico Wilderness area just too stunning not to stop and take a few last photos.  Dixie and I remained in the truck while Debbie headed off with camera in hand.

I see Debbie talking to a lone guy further down the dusty road.  He was sitting on a log taking a break from fly fishing, sharing his sandwich with a chipmunk and smiling as he nodded talking to Debbie. I watched as Debbie took a few more photos of the winding waters and noticed she was wearing a big smile as she approached the truck.  “Guess who that guys is,” she stated.  Uh..how would I know, we’re in the middle of the wild New Mexico Wilderness.  It was Ted Turner!  From what we gathered Ted Turner who is famous for owning a good deal of wilderness country and ranching land in New Mexico and Colorado was simply fly fishing just out of range of his property line.  The incredible odds of this meeting made the adventure all the more memorable for both of us.  No photo’s as we respect others privacy when bumping into them. This is is a good shot of the pristine New Mexico Wilderness and winding waters where this meeting took place.  Something we may reflect upon when we’re in the nursing home rocking and reminiscing on our New Mexico wilderness glory days.

Did you get out of the car and shake hands with Teddy? That is so cool. This looks like a great trout stream. I wouldn't mind drowning a few flies in it.

Hi John -- real estate, just like life, puts us into situations that brings in contact with many interesting people -- famous and perhaps soon to be famous -- isn't that great?

Was that photo near Chama?  I have some relatives in that part of the world and I think it is some of the most beautiful country in the world!

Some beautiful country. I have to admit upon first looking at your title I thought it read Ted Turner County. My immediate thought, if you own the entire county can you not change the name and this would make a logical choice. I wonder since this wasn't true did he catch anything. cheers cvc

Craig,  Isn't that place just gorgeous.  We absolutely love it up there and the best part we almost had it all to ourselves well except for Ted.

Robert,  I agree the odds of that encounter in the remote part of the NM is huge.  We love NM and particularly the northern sector.

Anita,  It really is hard to leave after spending 3-4 days in this high country paradise.

Jim,  I think most folks do think of NM as desert and in some regard that would be accurate.  Around here its considered high desert, you have to recall we are similar to Denver here in Albuquerque..the other mile high city.

Dorie,  And the photo does not even do justice to what we 360.  An amazing place no doubt!

Elizabeth,  We certainly were not expecting the celebrity surprise but good fun, Debbie did not pester him long.

Jerry,  We have some fabulous hiking adventures to share, looking forward to lacing up the boots for the next adventure as well.

R&A,  It was a great trip indeed and a Ted just helped up plant into memory even more.  This place is the epitome of "The Land of Enchantment"

Hi Rebecca,  Photo can capture so much and then again capture so little.  They do serve as a snap shot reminder of memories worth keeping.  Gods country indeed and yes all over this great country we get to call home.

Roy,  We would love to have each of you, not all at once though..LOL

Laura,  We love this great state and have spent a good deal of down time exploring and discovering.  Just good clean fun!

Janis, No that camping is not for everyone and it not a lazy mans vacation but the places we get to see just cant be seen any other way.

Michael,  We feel lucky, there is so much diversity in landscape here in NM from the pure White Sands Monument to the nearly untouched High Country of pine forest and flowing mountain waters.

Al and Peg,  We have met bear, elk, marmot, deer, moose etc. etc. but a Ted Turner was a first and likely last.  Good fun!

Erika,  We love that part of NM and try to make an annual trek or two up to the area.  It's work getting there and set up but worth every moment.

Hi Josh,  I'm sure it is, I have never been a horseman but if I were I would to explore this part of the country.

Linda,  We had a good time with plenty more stories to tell.  Photos too but we to pick and choose.:>)

Michael,  One never knows what another does for R&R and down time.  Fly fishing is such a great stress reliever.

Jennifer,  We do manage to pull away from real estate from time to time and enjoy the fruits of labor and the gifts of God.

Hey Tim B,  No doubt he knows how to pick um. He knows how to buy them too.

Tim L, And it just goes on and on and on.

Sham Man,  Oh yeah, good stuff up there.  Well kept secret too!

Teral,  Well Ted bought some of it!

Karen, Nope he was kicking it, we were kicking it and it best just leaving it at that! He was feeding a squirell anyway and had stopped fishing for  a bit.

Anna,  Glad you enjoyed our adventure and the photo.

Hey Michael,  Life is a great and interesting ride for sure.

Hi Kathryn,  Same latitude as Chama but further east.  Chama is gorgeous too!  We spent a long weekend just noth of Chama at a Colorado lake, we could here the train whistles faintly from our camp.  That was another great adventure.  Your relatives must love it up there.  Well until the many feet of snow start to fall.

Hi Curtis,  Ted Turner country!  He owns a portion of the land north and east of this photo.  I see you didn't believe our story, I guess you jut had to be there.
