Baby Boomers, White Hair and Books for a Creative Retirement- (Active Lifestyle)

When it comes to an active lifestyle and creative retirement, no doubt about it, our white-haired Baby Boomers clients are strongly interested in investigating the possibilities .. Recently this “Dapper Couple” visited Asheville as they  considered relocation potential for “early” creative retirement.

It was a great visit made especially memorable by the "thanks so much for your local expertise and advice"  gift they left us, Mark Nepo’s, The Book of Awakening. . . a best seller. chosen by Oprah for her “Ultimate Favorite Things Show". . I, had missed it. And it is mighty impressive. Not a book you want to  miss.

Most impressive to me is the good counsel it offers in a day-by-day “meditation” . . .bits of wisdom are so apropos for Baby Boomers and White-Haired Wonders (in all phases of becoming) and for the REALTORS among us who love the idea of “ leaning into life and holding nothing back”  This could be especially true for the  White-Silver Haired Wonders and Baby Boomers like many of my clients here in Asheville. .As Baby Boomers begin to (un)retire, eco-friendly lifestyles and the health and environmental benefits of a "go green" attitude seem to  fit well.

Retirement should be a happy time doing lots of different activities to help keep you young and active.  It is so wonderful that some people retire while they are still young enough to go and enjoy seeing new sights.  They are the real winners.

I have found many who were thinking of retiring are now rethinking that, in large part due to the economy and the changes that many have experienced around job loss, 401K and IRA declines, and changes in their housing situations. Those who can retire as planned and spend their time doing what they want are, indeed, fortunate. That dream, for some, has eroded.

We live at Canyon Lake TX where we have many retirees. I see that many have retired and after the first year take a pt-time job to fill-in the time. They miss the day to day with a working purpose. An added value is the extra money.

I'm always looking for a good read, so I'll check out the book!  I tried retiring about 6 years ago.  I had been looking forward to it for a few years, and actually had a countdown to the day.  Then when it happened, I absolutely went stir crazy.   After a couple of months, of crocheting doilies at the Senior Center, and getting a Colonscopy, I decided it was time for me to go back to work:-)
