WRA Newswire Promotes ActiveRain Among “Eight Best Practices for Real Estate Professionals in 2008”

ActiveRain is getting attention and praise from the real estate industry, including the leadership of the Wisconsin Realtors' Association.

In the Friday, December 14 issue of the WRA (Wisconsin Realtors' Association) Newswire quotes Bill Shue, President of RealtyU, as suggesting that in the current challenging market, agents "would be wise to start blogs" and suggests they "join social networking sites such as ActiveRain and RealTown".

About a month ago, I received a comment on my blog from WRA President Bill Malkasian.  I was delighted to see that Bill is reading what goes on here at ActiveRain.  WRA has always been technology-aware and it appears that they are taking ActiveRain very seriously.

Lisa, WRA tends to be very progressive and proactive about new developments in real estate.

Eric, Fantastic to hear that AR's readership is reaching so far and wide and the better news is that people encourage others in the industry to join the network. It makes it influential for the benefit of everyone.

Esko, I watch for news items like this one and it always pleases me to see AR pop up here and there.

Eric, this is great news!  I'll have to look out for news like this in Virginia.

Natalie, I think we'll be hearing more about AR being recognized as a worthy place to participate.

It is interesting. I am looking at the number of members, see it growing, but I still have a feeling that agents do not see any value in it, which is OK, but they are not interested in even using it as a great resource of knowledge.

I have introduced several people to AR and I see that they have done nothing, not even completed the profile. And they complain about the business.

Go figure

Jon -- How true!  And it's sad that you can introduce people to ActiveRain and they will ignore the invitation.  Are they concerned that it will take time away from their business?  And if their business is slow, wouldn't it make sense to try something new?

This is exactly what I do not understand. People in this profession keep saying that they need to try something knew in order not even to grow their business, but to be able to keep it at a survival level. And then you tell them that this is a resource. They supposedly trust you, but still do nothing.

I am a defiant and stubborn guy, so I call them again and talk to them, and they say, yeah, they would look into it, and nothing changes again.

I am not trying to promote AR, as they think. I am trying to have them get used to the format of the future. I was talking to one guy yesterday, and he is on AR, but does nothing. So I told him that there will be a moment when local associations would start linking to AR, so everybody would be able to go an look who they deal with. Being number 4 in the city and county is better than not to be at all, and would I benefit from my position? Well, I would be sending pieces out now, and I would link it to Localism, and tell them that yes, there are 3 people ahead of me, but one is a secretary (call coordinator), one is a trainer (and I would suggest that if AR distinguish between practicing Realtors and everyone else, that would be much better), and only one who is selling real estate, but that I specialize in condo-hotels, and therefore I am NUMBER ONE.

At this moment every agent will rush and they will start getting the points, and, as we all know, the minute everyone does it, it is not longer the marketing tool. But now it is, and not using it is not wise.

And the resource. Just watching the discussions allows you to stop on top of the important issues. And the wealth of technical information, simply incredible.

Well, it is sad, but maybe they really need to go work for Walmart?

Jon, I agree.  Maybe it's because some people are amazingly averse to technology.  I have a client who will not use email, will not search the Web and who stubbornly refuses to come into the twenty-first century.  The funny part is, he is about forty-five years old.  I can understand someone in their seventies or eighties being reluctant to learn about the Web and about computers, but it astounds me to encounter someone who just will not learn.

Sounds like your association is on top of things and realizes that blogging is and will continue to be a large part of real estate for years to come.

Todd, it looks like Wisconsin is on top of things when it comes to recognizing the value of blogging.  I hope other state and local associations across the country will follow suit.
