You can have fresh locally grown produce every week without all the work of a garden while helping to support a sustainable food supply in your area. Local growers and farmers are giving customers a chance to buy a "share" of their freshly harvested locally grown produce through a program called a CSA.
CSA is an acronym for Community Supported Agriculture and is becoming a popular way for people to buy farm direct for fresh nutrient packed produce. For a full list of the multiple ways these programs contributes to your community please check out the list on LocalHarvest.
Last year our fresh and local chemical free grower Gaia Garden Designs started a wonderful CSA program offering both 1/2 and full shares of produce. Each week subscribers were able to pick up their share of garden fresh items such as: tomatoes, peppers, beans, onions, beets, herbs, squash and more, depending on what had just been picked from the field. Some weeks there is more and some less depending crop availability, but the value based on the overall amount of food received was visibaly discernable and the quality was fantastic.
Dave & Lori, the owners of Gaia Garden Designs, have very high standards so the produce will be just as beautiful this year and I look forward to the wonderful recipe ideas along with each weeks bag full of goodies.
If you are interested in a local CSA subscription I would suggest going to the LocalHarvest zip code search page or if you are in or near St. Cloud MN I would happily suggest checking out Gaia Garden Designs CSA Subscription for the 2012 season. Your heart and tummy will thank you.
