Aloma's loss, First Baptist Atlanta's gain- one of God's soldiers marches on...

Pastor Anthony

Aloma's loss, First Baptist Atlanta's gain- one of God's soldiers marches on...

This is a tough one.  There's an old Tennessee Ernie Ford country Gospel song that instructs us to live by the will of God, and to a call- or as it says, "Children go where I send thee...".  The Lord has chosen to lead Pastor Anthony George away from sunny Central Florida and Aloma Church- and has steered him towards First Baptist Atlanta.

Aloma Church says farewell to Pastor Anthony tomorrow, and I say so long to my friend.

I first met Anthony George in September of 2006.  From the first time I heard him preach, I knew that he was speaking nothing but the truth.  What he spoke of and preached of both then and now is nothing but The Word of God.

Our Holy Bible is The Truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth- an inerrant story of Jesus Christ's love for us.  At Aloma Church, we've truly been blessed to have been led by a man who's both great preacher and teacher of that story.

A preacher's task is to help folks understand the understandable...believe the impossible is possible with Christ...and to show them that even the least lovable amongst us still have worth and are precious in His sight.  God provided that for us in Pastor Anthony, and I thank Him.

I know Pastor Anthony's decision to leave Aloma was not an easy one- thus, I know it was the right one.  Plainly and simply, Pastor Anthony George chose to follow God and answer when He called.  Both he and First Baptist Atlanta will truly be blessed for it- a church will soon welcome a dynamic and plain-spoken shepherd, and one of God's soldiers will continue to abide by The Good Book and lead more souls to Christ than they could ever imagine.

God has truly blessed Aloma Church with Pastor Anthony's stewardship, and we are thankful.  It's tempting to say "I hope First Baptist Atlanta knows what a great preacher they're getting", but that's not necessary.  If they don't already know, they'll know soon.

Please pray for us tomorrow.  Pray that Pastor Anthony will continue to have peace in his decision to leave through the sadness and tears in tomorrow morning's services and the fun of tomorrow evening's BBQ fellowship.  I'm fairly sure God will be there- and that He'll allow Pastor Anthony the grace to get through everything.

Personally, I already miss Pastor Anthony, my preacher.  And I miss my friend Anthony George even more.

He is a wonderful preacher and because of his messages, my husband has been going to church with me and the kids at First Baptist. I am sure you miss him very much. I can not put into words how his arrival at FBA has changed our lives!

Hi, Courney:  Thank you for dropping by, and for your comment and kind words.  I know First Baptist has been served well by Dr. Stanley over the many years he's been there- and I know and trust that the Lord has His hand on Pastor Anthony today as he always has.  I'm forwarding your comment to him- I know he'll appreciate it.

Thank you again for those kind words.  As we at Aloma continue to wait for (and our search committee continues to seek) the man God's chosen as Pastor Anthony's successor (not replacement), we all do still miss him very much and still thank God for him.

A better shepherd First Baptist will never find.
