I just remembered another reason why living in Dutchess County, NY is so awesome... the trains! Whether you commute to NY City or just want to get there occasionally for the day (like I did last week on Metro North), the train makes the journey there stress-free!
Next week I will be taking the train to Syracuse to get my parents for the holidays (they're in their 80's and don't drive the distance, so I take the train and drive them here in their car which is much more comfortable for them to get in and out of than my SUV).
Anyway, we have even taken Amtrak to Washington DC (much cheaper than driving there and paying for parking at the DC hotels). You can even take the train to Boston from here! For only a nominal fee more, the upgrade to business class provides a roomier enviroment.
Since I once worked for a major airline, I would say I am pretty well traveled. Take it from me, I enjoy traveling by Amtrak more than flying these days - much less hassle.
