Spring Is In The Air - San Diego's Seaport Village  Celebrates With the Busker Festival

Seaport Village Busker Festival

Busker is an English slang for street performer and the practice dates back centuries ago although the term for this type of entertainer first appeared in the English language in the mid 1800's.

This weekend Seaport Village is loaded with notable street performers as part of it's annual Seaport Village Spring Busker Festival. The acts were varied from a Didgeridoo player, slight of hand, jugglers, Pogo performers, athletic feats, pantomime and still life. The photo above of a performer demonstrating balance, strength and agility climbing a pole that is held up by 4 volunteers. I might add that I think trust must also play a significant role here, so the next time someone mentions Busker to you, you will know what they are talking about.

William  The term buskers is new to me, but I love street performers.  They usually are so willing to play a request if they know it.  Of course, I'm speaking of the musicians

William? Is that a self portrait?  Are you climbing up that pole? lol.  I love street entertainers, even the mimes although they can sometimes weird me out a little.  Looks like fun.

William, thanks for the introduction of a new word into our collective vocabulary!  Would you like to climb a pole held by four other people?  That's what I would call trust combined with skill and guts!

Buskers are still around in England too, William, here I think we just call them street performers. I would enjoy seeing this event. Sounds like lots of fun.

Busker - I had never heard that term before.  I have a certain fascination of street performers.  There are some great ones in San Francisco.  I remember being near Fisherman's Wharf with a couple grandkids a few summers ago.  We were mesmerized by several of the acts.  Then as we were walking along the wharf, we came across a guy just sitting there with a can.  After we walked by, my 6 year old granddaughter said, "He needs a better gig!"

I also agree with Toni.  They have them in England too.  There are some wonderful ones in London!

The Busker Festival looks like a lot of fun and a good place to get great photographs.

We have a beautiful sunny day in Maryland and it is ideal for some outdoor activities.
