Senior Living in Alameda
Mastick Senior Center
The Live Oak Project has developed a definition of an Elder:
“An Elder is a person who is still growing, still a learner, still with potential and whose life continues to have within it promise for and connection to the future. An Elder is still in pursuit of happiness, joy and pleasure, and his or her birthright to these remains intact. Moreover, an Elder is a person who deserves respect and honor, and who work it is to synthesize wisdom from long life experience and formulate this into a legacy for future generations.”
This is a beautiful statement which described the seniors in our community. So many are active, happy, interesting and always learning. One of the places Seniors find indispensable is Alameda’s Mastick Senior Center.
Mastick Senior Center is a division of the Alameda Recreation & Park Department. The Center provides a wide variety of programs and services, including health, education and recreation. Many of the Centers members are also volunteers at the Center. About 185 volunteers are dedicated to keeping the Centers programs, classes and services available for its members.
The Alameda Adult School offers classes at Mastick Senior Center, some for a fee and some free. Class run the gamut from dancing, exercising, art, card games, sewing, computer, foreign languages, video classes and much more. There is never a dull day at the Center.
Mastick Senior Center also provides services such as legal assistance, tax preparation, Alzheimer support groups, notary and AARP Driver Safety Program.
Mastick Senior Center is an important resource for Seniors of our community, but more than that, it is a fun, vibrant place to be.
