I was talking to a FSBO the other day and he said he did not need a Realtor because selling his house would be "Easy as Pie!" This is so wrong in so many ways. I took offense because it was an insult and a trivialization of my profession, but I held my tongue and made a quick exit.

Not wanting to dwell on the negative aspects of this encounter, I got to wondering how did "Easy as Pie" originate? According to my wife, it's hard work to make a good pie and takes lots of practice and most of the morning. I believe her because she made several not so good attempts before she got it right. (If you are reading this dear, your pies are fabulous!)

How about "Funny as Hell". We all know what it means, but how did burning in Hell for eternity ever become funny.

White as a Sheet: Mine are pink and frilly. You don't even see white ones in hotels anymore.

Plain as Day: To Who? (or Whom?) I don't know.

Like Taking Candy from a Baby: What cold-hearted scoundrel would make a baby cry?

Cute as a Bug: Is this a complement? Most people don't want a bug anywhere near them. Don't even get me started on spiders.

Dumb as Dirt: I ain't got no problem whit that.

I use many colloquialisms such as those you mention. Many sellers do not have a clue what agents do to sell a home, but these people are usually egomaniacs. Let em do it themselves - they will probably have a long wait.

I deal with the same thing, but maybe not as much as you. I hear people say they will get their uncle, who used to be a carpenter, to inspect a house for them. Then I ask "Does you uncle know about Federal Pacific electrical panels"? They ask me what about them, and depending upon their level of arrogance I may tell them about it. Don't let the egomaniacs bother you, and keep on doing what works! Happy holidays! -Ray

Pies are definitely not one of my specialties and I LOVE to bake!  They are very hard to bake as your wife mentions.  So let Mr Easy as Pie sell his own home and see how Easy as Pie it is!
