Don't Miss This Event ~ The Best Buys Around for a Most Noteworthy Cause

OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital

RiteAid Annual Plant Sale

Even though it is a month away, it is time to get ready to attend the "Annual Rite Aid Plant Sale" A benefit where all the proceeds go directly to the OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital.

This cause, and other fund raisers for Doernbecher's is very special to me as my youngest grandson, several years ago, was there for 6 months when he was diagnosed with Leukemia.  He is a Down child and was only 18 months old at the time.

This institution was the greatest, my daughter lived there with him as that is a requirement and I was there every day and sometimes overnight so she could go home to her family.  It was a difficult time.  He is now in remission and we pray he stays this way for always.

Rite Aid Annual Plant Sale

The plant sale is April 27th and 28th, 2012 from 9am to 5pm.

All of the plants are donated from local growers and farmers and I have to say you could never find them so inexpensively anywhere, and they are so healthy, plus look where all of the proceeds go.

Getting ready for the plant sale means to me that I go out into the yard, garden area and take a good look around.  Do I want to change anything and if I Rite Aid Annual Plant Saledo what.  What would I replace the things I take out with.

I personally have a book for my house and my garden areas.  All the same book, front half for the house and back half for the garden areas.

It works beautifully and this way I have a complete record, plus the receipts of what I do for the house, room by room and the garden, plant by plant.  Well Almost plant by plant.

Put it on Your calendar April 27th and 28th, 2012.

Mary, Rite Aide plant sale, what a fantastic event and a great way to benefit the Children's Hospital.  I like your idea of having a book of what plants are around the yard and inside the house.

Hi Kim, Last year we purchased a lot of different plants and it was incredible.  English boxwoods, normally about $30 we got them for $10.  Other plants as well.  Everything is donated and all proceeds go to Doernbecher's so nothing is lost.

Alexandra, It surely will be a success.  I will blog several more times as it approaches and hopefully more and more people will see it.

Rebecca,  I was impressed the first time we went and can hardly wait to go this year.  I am formulating my list.  The book I keep is a spiral bound smaller books 6 x 8.5.  It is leather bound because I am a journal nut and is lined.  The first half of the book is only about the inside of the house.  I went through the house room by room with several pages for each.  I wrote down all my "dreams" for each room, what I would like to change, and what I would want to do to change it.

When I do change a room even if it is just painting it, I write down what I am doing and keep all the receipts for the project.  Paint colors, etc.  Believe me it has saved me over the years because if you do not want to change a color and do not have the formula or paint chip well...you get the picture.  I have done this with all the rooms.  It is really fun to look back as well.

The second half of the book is dedicated to the outside.  Each year I write down what plants I want and where I want them and how many of each.  Then when I go to the nursery I have my list, if you will and I just check off what I get.  I can look from the prior year and see what I had done and it helps.  Sometimes I do drawings if I want to change something which I always seem to do, and it is not only fun but I have a record for following years.  I don't always accomplish everything and I do have my dreams, but I find that when I write it all down, most times it comes to fruition.
