Teral shares a story about the water issues in North Texas, still. As an advocate for low water consumption, this exemplifies why!

Please be responsible with your landscaping, be considerate of your neighbors and don't plant water sucking landscaping. Given all the wildfires in Texas last year, funny store of zebra mussels or not, its not so funny.

Thanks for sharing Teral! There's nothing plane about Plano, Texas!

Hello Invasive Species - Goodbye Texas Lakes

With warm weather upon us our thoughts and attention is returning to the recreational outdoor activities Texans love namely boating on its many lakes. Due to some environmental concerns Texans and anyone else enjoying Texas lakes need to practice environmentally friendly procedures to keep Texas lakes clean and flowing for years to come.

North Texas has been under Stage 3 drought conditions due to these environmental concerns. Stage 3 restrictions greatly reduce the amount of watering activities homeowners can do due to the extreme drought conditions experienced across Texas in 2011. Praise the Lord - North Texas was recently blessed with some much needed rain. North Texas lakes are now at or above their normal water levels.

With the return of normal lake levels there remains other concerns with invasive species that threaten the health of Texas lakes. Much of the water supply in Collin County comes from the North Texas Municipal Water District. Lake Texoma is the primary source of water that feeds into Lake Lavon. Lake Texoma has been invaded with the invasive species known as zebra mussels.

The video below was prepared by Texas Parks & Wildlife to help Texans understand how they can do their part in protecting the lakes against these invasive species. Please watch the video to see how you can do your part to help keep the zebra mussels out of Lake Lavon.
