Buzz Buzz Whoosh Flap

Oh sure, we’ve all been feeling pretty complacent about the warmer than usual winter…what a relief, right? And yep, the colors of spring have sprung early and brilliant. But what do you think about the sounds of summer in March? I was up at the farmhouse just outside of Dillsboro this weekend leaving a key for a REALTOR when I heard Buzz Buzz Whoosh Flap, Buzz Buzz Whoosh Flap. I couldn’t believe my luck that I was able to catch a photo of the biggest dragonfly I’d ever seen in flight!

Mild winters, early spring...kind of like using magic...it comes at a cost!  Have a good weekend.

I'm cool with the sounds of summer in March as long as we don't get the sounds of winter in August.

Joan, I was lucky to get out of there without a dragonfly bite!

Mark, thanks.  I didn't even know dragonflies made that kind of noise until I was up close and personal.

Barbara, it probably won't be 100 all summer, but I'll bet there will be some of that!

Jill...now, you are scaring me. Winter in August just ain't natural.

Mona,  So did the wings really flap back and forth?  That must have been quite a sight.  Sounds like a good alternative to a scarecrow.

Ha, Mona, thank goodness it was a dragonfly! In some areas of Canada (Winnipeg, you know I'm talking about you....) - I'd worry it was a mosquito! That would be one big buzz buzz whoosh SLAP!  Thanks for the Friday smile! :-)

Thanks Kathy.  The yard art at the farmhouse is my favorite.

Than, that's pretty funny.

Sheila, glad you enjoyed it.

Belinda, well..yeah, of course they flapped.  Are you accusing me of telling tall tales? lol

Karen, in Florida we would have thought the sound preceeded a Palmetto bug.

Mona~ I just know there is more snow in OUR future here in Colorado.  I worry about all the trees and flowers that think the warm weather is here to stay.

Hi Mona,

Great title and great photography as the colors are wonderful. I get dragonflies in my yard as they fly over the pool. The Black Phoebes like to hang out and catch them. I cannot get a photo as the dragonflies are so fast and never seem to land but the birds have better luck than me at catching them.
