30 Year Fixed Rate Average Back Under 4.00% Again

Some good news on the mortgage front! According to Freddie Mac's weekly market survey, 30, 15, and 5/1 ARM averages all moved lower with the 30 year fixed rate average dipping below 4.00%. After a significant rise the prior week, the 30 year average slid to 3.99% (with .7 points) and the 15 year fixed rate average fell to 3.23% (.8 pts). Frank Nothaft of Freddie Mac noted that interest rates drifted lower on poor housing news as the "S&P/Case Shiller® 20-City Composite home price index slid in January to its lowest reading since December 2002."
