Open House tip for this weekend.

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Centre Realtors

If you are hosting an open house this weekend here are two suggestions for the open house.

You should go to the Dollar store for some inexpensive items eg a large basket, easter grass and pastel colored eggs. Fill these eggs with Hershey kisses and display at the open house near the sign-in sheet . Give each person who visits the house one of the treats along with your card and flyer about the house.

It will creat a warm atmosphere. Everyone loves to receive something for free and most people love Hershey kisses. They are usually on sale at this time.

Another thing you can do is to buy a large glass jar and fill it will Jelly Beans that you can buy at the same store. Count the Jelly beans in advance and when people register ask them to guess the number of Jelly beans  in the jar. Offer to call them after the open house if they have won. The prize will be the jar of jelly beans. people love the game.

I'd have to do the basket of eggs. No way I'd get through the counting process for an accurate number because my husband would eat them all in the process : )

Love the ideas Gita! The jelly beans in a jar is an innovative way to get those "just looking" visitors to leave a phone number!

Nice suggestions and maybe they won't be messy.  I do not do food and drinks at open houses because of the danger of sloppy eaters damaging the house.

Gita, great idea. I suggest giving it to them as they leave so you don't end up with foil and chocolate all over the house!

This is fantastic advice! Little things like this shows that a homeowner and their agent care about creating a welcome atmosphere really shows going above and beyond--and that's what makes all the difference sometimes.

Fun ideas, Gita.  This type of activity helps break the ice and give people something to talk about.  I would also put my card inside the eggs.
