Get comfortable with being behind...

By
Education & Training with Real Estate Grad School

OK, I have officially decided that I will never get caught up and it is a good thing.

I have been behind since my adolescence.  Between sports, school, clubs, and social life I always had more to do than I could get to.  Now, many years later I have a plan then it takes me many more hours to prepare for a talk or write an article or whatever so I get behind.

Then of course, I get asked to be on a board or head a committee and though I often say no; there are some positions that interest me or some groups that I am proud to serve.  But of course it adds to the work that doesn't get done.

So, last night my lovely wife said to me that she is not able to catch up on all her work.  So, I said get comfortable with being behind.  It means you have a successful life.  Pick the priorities and we'll strategize on the rest.

I love my life.  That is not a fact.  It is a choice.

You can love yours too.

Part of accomplishing that loving feat is to "... accept the things you cannot change, have the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."  (Adapted from Reinhold Niebuhr - whoever that is).

So I give you permission to do two things.

First to be comfortable being behind.

Second to love your life.

These are choices over which you have complete control.

Think about that for today.

When I start getting caught up, I start to worry.

I get a rare 3-4 hours alone today, so i'm catching up on paperwork, filing, and hopefully getting all my tax stuff together (Sorry to dampen the mood, but its right around the corner), budget to complete, stuff to mail, and of course, "play" on ActiveRain.  it never ends, but I find it relaxing.  My wife suggested that I forget about everything, and take a nap of something.  I had to remind her that even The Pope works on Christmas Day.

Merry Christmas, and I hope that you never catch up in 2008!!!
