Setting Goals and Meeting them.

April 1st, 2008 was a big day for me. I began my Real Estate career with Prudential. It was 22 years after I wanted to do it but, I did it, nonetheless.

Before I began though, I wrote down a list of goals that I wanted to achieve in my first five years. Those were: 1. Learn the ins and outs of a true Real Estate Transaction, while understanding the process. (the easy one) 2. Sell my first Home. 3. Do a Commercial Deal. 4. Learn the REO Process and represent a buyer/seller in such a transaction. 5. Learn the Short Sale process and represent a buyer/seller in a transaction.

I knew that I could not gain real world experience from a book. I had to get my hands dirty, so to speak.

My very first deal was a Car Wash representing the Buyer. My second deal was a residential buyer/seller transaction. My third deal was a Short Sale. My fourth was an REO through Fannie Mae. My fifth was almost a HUD home, we'd gone through the entire process of negotiaton and ended up being contingent upon a Home Inspection. That deal fell through, but my Buyer was able to purchase a different home, just a short distance away. Heck I still have a year to go...

Many friends and family asked me why I got into Real Estate when I did. Initially, I told them because it was one of those things I've put off for waaaay too long. Getting in when I did, also allowed me to learn many valuable lessons. The timing, I thought, was right. It was April of 2008! It was in a slooow time in the business. I wanted to be able to take on a transaction and walk along with it, understanding the process. It was slow enough and it helped me learn.

In November of 2008, I found Activerain. Of course, I had no idea where this membership would lead, but I had a feeling that this website was a resource I could use as a tool to build my business. And then some!!!

I still have a year to go on my 5 year goals. I am now looking at my 7 year, 10 year and Lifetime goals. I have already started them.

Activerain was a valuable resource then and continues to be today. Since I became active in the blogging scene here, I have made some great friends, learned things from seasoned veterans (Notice I didn't say old) and have grown my business. I look forward to what lies ahead.

Being that I turned four today? I think today, I would be a fool, if I didn't go fishing! Heck, I do need my time too.

Enjoy the day Rainers and thank you all for being a part of my business and family.    :)

Morning Jon -

What an excellent testimonial about setting goals, staying focused and moving onward and upward in life.  No turning back now my friend.  Without dreams, hopes, goals we have nothing and will certainly end up on the dead end street.

Have a grand day in all you do!

John

Cheryl ~ Indeed. As a former Ground pounder myself, at one time stationed in Ft. Useless, that would be totally cool. Have a great week. I look forward to our continued growth and achievements.    :)

Sharon ~ Thank you. I initially tried the 30 thing a while back, but wasn't seeing any results, so I discontinued it. After sitting back and looking at everything that the Rain had to offer, I HAD TO TAKE THE PLUNGE! It takes time to build a presence and the sporadic way I was doing things didn't prove to be fruitful. Becoming a Rainmaker is essential, IMO, if I want to continue to grow my business and presence on the web. Thank you for commenting here too.   :)
