In early January a petition will be out to see if Vacaville residents wish to vote to create a boundary for urban development around the city.  City officials and Representatives of the Greenbelt Alliance in addition to the developer Standard Pacific Homes are putting together the petition for signatures.

If enough signatures are gathered the proposed urban development limit could be put on the ballot as early as November.

If the limit passes, Vacaville would be unable to rezone the land usage outside the urban planning area for any other uses than farming and open space for the next 20 years.

City officials have said that the limit would still give the city plenty of room to grow and would not be to restrictive to the city'sfuture needs.
