Albuquerque Bio Park Mourns The Death of Beloved Gorilla ‘ Lina’ , John McCormack, Realtor, Albuquerque Homes Realty

Albuquerque BioPark staff as well as fans mourn the death of beloved Gorilla Lina.

Lina died March 30,2012 due to a brain aneurysm.  Lina was rushed to the Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center of New Mexico where she diagnosed with a massive brain aneurysm.  It was a very hard decision but it was decided the most humane thing to do was to euthanize the 39 year old Gorilla, Lina.

Lina was born in Los Angeles zoo where actress Betty White helped raise the Western Lowland Gorilla famously known as, Lina.  Betty White has kept in touch with her human like friend Lina the Gorilla at Albuquerque BioPark, visiting her and writing book talking about her Gorilla friend Lina in the book Betty and Friends: My Life at the Zoo..  Betty White’s staff said Mrs. White would be heartbroken when told of the news of her beloved Gorilla, Lina’s death.

In May 1992, Lina became part of the
Albuquerque  BioPark and was loved by the Albuquerque Bio Park staff and many visitors.  Lina had no children of her own but did Albuquerque BioPark Mourns Death of Beloved Gorilla Linaleave behind an adopted daughter. Lina thought she more human than Gorilla, always showing kindness and gentleness.  Lina’s caregivers and fans are devastated at her loss and Lina will be greatly missed by all.  Indeed  Albuquerque  BioPark Mourns The Death of Beloved Gorilla  ‘Lina’

Aw, sorry to hear the news. But, if we are to be philosophical, what a rich life this beloved gorilla enjoyed. And, that's the way it should be. I'm very sorry for the loss and hope healing comes soon to the BioPark in the Q,  and the people who loved her up close and personal.

This is so sad, Lina looks like she was loved by many. I'm sure the zoo had a hard time making the decision but, it sounds like it was the kind thing to do.

I read about this.  It was so sad.  But, she had a pretty good life, and far better than she would have had in the wild, I would think.  Thanks, John.

Hi John,

It is so hard to hear about wonderful animals that have to be put to sleep due to illness. Lina sounds like a wonderful zoo celebrity and friend to all who knew and loved her. I am sure Betty White will be sad as she is such a big help to bettering the zoos and has devoted her life to helping the animals. I am so sorry but Lina is better off and will not have any major suffering. It is hard with animals as they cannot tell us like people can. I am sure it was an extremely tough decision for the vets at the zoo.

John, what a great way to give a tribute to Lina - a creature who touched so many lives.  Do you know how long gorilla's typically live?  Is this longer than "normal"?

I'm so glad so many got to enjoy Lina while she was here - she brought joy to so many, I'm sure.

She will be missed and there are not enough of her kind remaining!  Her life was the source of enlightening many about the gorillas and the challenges they face in a world with shrinking habitat.

What a sad story, I love gorillas.  They are so human like, aren't they.  I know Lina had a good home and life and was well taken care of in Albuquerque.  I'm sure she will be sorely missed by the patrons....
