SPCA Suncoast and the Cat and Craft Show - Starbuck’s Debut on the Circuit

I had the good fortune to attend The Cat and Crafts Show about a week or so ago with several of our SPCA Suncoast adoptables. Starbuck the kitten was the sweetest thing and was entered in the show. Starbuck was awestruck by all the other kitties and since this was his first time, he wondered what was going on.

This was my first cat show as a participant so he and I felt the same. It was confusing because we had to keep moving from ring to ring. Then he would go back in his cage; then we would go to another ring. My husband took him one time when I was busy with the other cats; then I couldn’t find him. Panic set up until I saw this adorable little gray kitten again.

SPCA Suncoast - Starbuck the kittenStarbuck finally became very tired and we took him home to the shelter. He won several rings/ribbons, and we were very proud of him.

Cat Shows can be a great way for people to learn about the different breeds and which ones work better with families. There were classes on how to get the kitties ready for their judging. There was a lot of information available for various cat shelters and adopting a shelter kitty. The breeders will let you pet many of the varieties so you can get a feel for each type.

Go to a cat show if you have one in your area; it's a lot of fun and you will learn a lot.

The SPCA Suncoast participates in many events and usually has adoptable pets with them. Come visit us at our next event is PetSmart National Adoption Day on May 5 at PetSmart Trinity. Just so you know, the SPCA Suncoast is a no-kill shelter. We keep them till they get adopted by their forever family.

Toni - I must say this is the first cat show I've watched on YouTube :)  Didn't even know they had cat shows.  Thanks for the feline education my friend.

I used to raise Ocicats and did cat shows in the Southwest.  Then we "retired" from the business and our kitties lived the quiet life at home.  They have all passed away and now we have shelter kitties to love.

One of my cats would do well, one would hiss and growl, the third would run and hide.  But I'd love to go and see a cat show.

I have never attended a cat show.  Other critters but I have missed the cat shows.  I may have to check that out!  Starbuck seemed to take all the commotion with poise.

Howdy and evening Toni

Toni my friend, Starbuck sure is a mighty good looking little ole kitten! I sure did enjoy your mighty fine Video Slide Show, and each of your photo captions. I sure bet it can be mighty confusing.

The Rescue Shelter in our Town only has Kitty Cats, but the events they hold always have to do with Puppy Dogs. They hold a Puppy Dog Parade and a Puppy Dog Show for folks to enter. I have even offered to come to the Shelter to take photos and videos for free of the Kitty Cats, and post them on my blog. But they said no to my offer

Have a good one

Toni, how extraordinary is that Leopard cat?  Does this show raise money for SPCA?  Can people adopt the cats?  Thanks for a really nice post.

Toni! How much fun was this??  I loved Starbuck's little photos, foreground and background. Your step-by-step day was a joy to read about and I did think you did a terrific job with your slide show. All of them are beauties. I always found it hard to take the animals back to the shelters when I would do pet therapy. That's how I ended up with Butterscotch, a Golden mix who was with me from 6 mos. old til almost 15 years. She was a WONDERFUL dog. I was so lucky.

Good morning Toni. How great to see you here. The video is wonderful and the commentary both informative and so funny. Sounds like you and Starbuck had quite a day.

John - cat shows are big business. They don't get the coverage of the dog shows though. Always glad to educate and entertain :)

Cindy - Occis are beautiful cats. So are shelter cats.

Cara - that warms my heart. Have a wonderful life with them.

Tammy - you would enjoy it.

Marge - Starbuck was quite the star and very gracious.

Dale -it can be very confusing but there are people who help point you to the area you're supposed to be in. Starbuck is a good looking kittiie.

Karen - the Bengals/Leapards are so unusual and that one is marked beautifully.

Mona - Money raised was shared by several rescues. People can adopt the rescue cats but not the show cats.

Gayle - it was very hard to take Starbuck back; I fell in love with the little guy but then I fall in love with all of them and have to be content with knowing I'm helping find homes for them.  But that's how we ended up with Shayna.

Tom - It's kind of hard to understand the first time you go but the cats are wonderful to see.

Sheila - we did and Starbuck was quiet worn out at the end.

I added a picture of Starbuck at the end of the day to the post.
