Albuquerque Firefighters Win $10,000 In Mega Lotto & Pay It Forward
At the last minute a group of Albuquerque Firefighters everyone in Station 8 went in on the Lotto pool. The captain, lieutenant, two drivers and a firefighter and yep they won $10,000! After dividing it up they each walked away with about $1400 a person. So what’s the first thing they did? They turned around and donated their share to a fellow firefighter and friend in need of brain surgery.
The friend and fellow firefighter is 24-year-old Vince Cordova. Vince has served as a firefighter for three years and has a rare brain tumor. Vince is facing huge amounts in medical bills. So this will really help him and his family out. Firefighter Vince is now at St. Vincent Medical Center, waiting on a specialized surgery that will remove the two golf ball-sized tumors from his brain.
Firefighter Jed Hyland stated, “Firefighters are family and when firefighters are called upon to help one of their own, they do,” "The brotherhood in the fire department is so strong. We help our own on and off work. We're family,"
Firefighter Vince Cordova says. "I'm so blessed, I have so much support. It's awesome." Vince Cordova’s brain surgery will take place at 10 a.m. PT on Wednesday April 4, 2012. All he's asking for is prayers and more prayers. The donation and act of paying it forward will actually be going to the Albuquerque Firefighter Survivors Fund, which will mostly be helping Cordova but could also benefit other firefighters in need.
