The Artist ~ Being stuck in the past is not a great advantage when selling your house.

Being stuck in the past is not a great advantage when selling your house. This is hThe Artistow the movie The Artist can relate to your situation.

I think that out of the many nominees, the Oscar winning movie The Artist is the must see movie of the year. It is brilliant, beautiful, and at the same time very philosophical.

How could it be related to selling your house?

If you resist the new buyer's requirements, selling your home could be a problem very similar to that of the main character in that George was facing, the main character in The Artist.

In 1927, George Valentin is Hollywood's top star, swashbuckling through adventure blockbusters. At one of his premieres he meets Peppy, a mystery girl who gets her own shot at stardom as a dancing extra in one of George's films. But time runs and the public wants more from the moviemakers. George becomes unpopular. And there are more problems when the studio boss decides to switch to talkies. So George walks out to make his own silent film, while Peppy becomes a sound-movie star. George lost everything due to the unpopularity of the silent movies. Depressed and angry he sets a match to his private collection of his earlier films. Valentin is hospitalized for injuries suffered in the fire. Luckily Peppy was ready to help and persuades the studio boss to let her make a musical together with George.

Being stuck in the past is not a great advantage when selling your houseThe main character George reminds me of a home owner, who lived in his house for many years and make it comfortable and adjusted to his style of life. But time changes and the house is for sale now and no one wants it but the owner doesn’t want to try something new thinking that homes have been selling forever in “as is” condition. At the same time he noticed that the other houses are staged and sell faster. The buyer is more likely to buy an updated house and it is very similar to the movie when the public liked the new generation movies, where actors started talking. Being stubborn has never helped neither our movie character nor the seller. And only trusting the Stager, the seller can go through the most stressful time of their life. Accepting new market requirements is the major step forward for the seller and a key to the success.

Yes we are often attached to the past, but when selling your house the new approach should be taken and all you have to do is open your mind and let professionals lead you.

No matter how long have you lived in your house, call your local Stager for their advice. Their trained eye will help you to make your home more appealing to your potential buyers.

Here is the example of tired last century room that was transformed into a happy space any buyer would want from the moment they stepped into the house.

Baing stuck in the past is not a great advantage of selling your house   dining room update

A space consuming china cabinet was moved to the storage alone with massive chairs, a new coat, chairs and staging accessories rented from Add Value Home Staging gave a totally new look to the room.

Open your mind to the new possibilities.

Anna, your movie analogy is very well put. Haven't seen the movie but the photos of the before and after dining room tell the story.

Anna, it sounds like a good movie I think I may try to see it or rent it if it is not still at the movie theatre.

Hi Anna--great analogy.  So many sellers are caught in the time warp and risk losing a lot when offering the property for sale.

Funny, the second set of chairs are more ugly to me then the first. However, Inote the paint, chair rail now stands out, etc.

I LOVE the gray and yellow combination!  I LOVE the chairs!  You really brought this dining room up to date!  Great job on the contest entry too!  I haven't seen The Artist, but I do have it on my list on Netflix.  I'll be working on my entry for the contest today....have a wonderful Easter!

Anna, that was a wonderful movie and the analogy for Roger's contest is fantastic-not good to be stuck in the past when trying to sell-you got to DETACH and move on with the times!

Maria, thank you. I strongly recommend to see this movie.

Carlotta, the movie came out in November of the last year and was in the theaters. Than after it won 10 Oscar nominations it came back for a while. Now you have to rent DVD or maybe your local cable channel has it.

Janet, so true. Making a step forward would help them a lot.

Erv, I can't believe I hear about ugly chairs from the Luxury Property Specialist! Do you sell your property vacant and no designer has ever been involved?

Roger, thank you for the opportunity.

Sharon, I am sure you will enjoy The Artist. Gray and yellow is my favorite combination this days. I can't wait to see your entry.

Joanna, thank you. Roger came up with fun contest.

Anna - I absolutely loved The Artist - one of my all time favourite movies.  Interesting that you chose this film, because I consider you a true Artist as a Home Stager!  So true - just like George was stuck in the past and refused to update his image, so home owners also make this mistake when they refuse to have their home updated to sell.

Love the 'before & after' example here.  This dining room went from dated and dowdy to fresh, new and cutting edge.  And don't anyone tell you those chairs are less than fabulous - they make the room!

Designers have almost always been involved. I just don't like the second set of chairs. Chocolate and vanilla issue.

Trust me, I know you do a great job and help.

Oh Sally, didn't I tell you that you are Master of compliments? I actually was very much waiting for you to stop by. I know that you love Chippendale chairs. Stay tuned for the makeover blog, those chairs are my new dream addition to the staging inventory.

Erv, thanks. I understand that it's just personal preference deal. We try to be on the top of new trends in design industry and updating this type of chairs with bold paint colors and contemporary re-upholstery fabric is what is in style now. To me they are top of the sophistication. Thank you for taking your time. Even you disagree, it's great to have a little talk here on AR.

Anna- what a great choice for your entry.  The original dining room was comfortable but you transformed it into something with Pop and that doesn't looked the least bit dated.

Kathy, you are so right about the before room. Comfortable is OK, but when selling your house it needs to look better than that.

Maureen, thank you.

Hi Anna, although we chose the same movie, I focused on agents and technology, and you focused on the seller not keeping up with the times. Thanks for telling me you wrote about the same movie. I enjoyed your blog and I think we both did a great job on the contest and captured two important issues. If we win or not, we still won:)
