WHEN BUYING A HOME WOULD YOU RATHER...

By
Industry Observer with Retired

Would you rather,

1) Work with a Realtor who has sold hundreds of homes (personally) or... is a "team member' with a few sales under their belt?

2) Work with a Realtor who lives in the community they work in or... one who can show you "any home in a hundred mile radius"?

3) Work with a Realtor who can provide you with a long list of references (including phone numbers and email addresses) or... one who "has dozens of past clients"?

4) Work with a Realtor who can give you (off the top of their head) a referral for any service provider from daycare to septic service or... one who hands you a phone book?

5) Work with an Realtor who interviews mortgage brokers with you (as part of his service) or... one who tells you "oh, my lender is the best, use him".

6) Work with an Realtor who returns all calls or emails within an hour or..one who gets back to you "at my earliest convenience".

7) Work with a Realtor who operates as your partner in the home buying/selling process or...one who is great at taking orders (I'll take a 3 bed 2 bath home with a 2 car garage under 200K please).

8) Work with a Realtor who has extended family and friends with children and parents in the community or...one who knew someone who heard a story about that school, or over 55 community.

Please add your thoughts in the comment section.

Thanks-David

I'd rather work with a Realtor who I knew was working for me.  One who is ethical, responsive and will make sure that my deal is the most important one they are handling.  I don't care if it is there first deal or their 5000 deal I want to be treated with respect.  Way to much emphasis these days that a an agent who has been in the business 500 zillion years is better than an agent who has only been in the business less than 10, 5, 3 or 1!  If they have taken the time to LEARN the business then they will earn my business....which is a quote from one of my FIRST clients who I SOLD a house to in my first 30 days of getting my Virginia license.

Dave- Feel free, Thanks for commenting!

Cindy - You have valid points there. However (and especially in this market) experience counts. Number 1 was in no way meant to discount new agents that display the traits you described. Thanks for commenting!

David, I agree with Cindy, that I want a Realtor to have my best interest at heart, and work for me. They should be trustworthy, knowledgeable, and responsive.

David,  Let's not forget about this one:  Would you like to work with a Realtor who is going to go the appropriate lenghts to make sure your contracts are secure without loop holes or an agent who says, we can get that signed later?  Nice post! :)
