Always having that thought in the back of my mind about the dangers I face as a Realtor® helps keep me alert to the possibilities that may or may not occur, while out in the field.
Many of the members here in ActiveRain are of the more suburbanite or city dwelling type. Once living in the City, I too, know of the concrete Jungle and the varying types of predators they can produce.
When showing properties, we all must keep in mind that situations may arise, that we might not have control over, if we are not prepared. Every once in awhile, we'll hear about the Agent who has been assaulted and or killed by a predator of the Human type. I know of several Agents who carry a weapon, concealed or otherwise.
I was out all day yesterday previewing massive acreage properties. Some of these parcels are out of cell range and most are quite isolated. As I was walking these properties, I started thinking about how far away I was from civilization and if an emergency were to occur, would I be prepared. I don't carry a weapon of the gun powder variety any more. I picked up a stick of about 5 feet in length. I can use it as a walking stick and it helps as I climb steep terrain. I'm not a kid any more, I need all the help I can get, dang it! :)
As I walk these properties, I constantly keep an eye on my surroundings and always look up in trees that I am walking near. The predators I concern myself with are not of the human kind. These are the ones that cover the land by four feet. They are of the Mountain Lion variety. Some call them Puma, Cougar or Panther. I know them as BIG KITTY's with an attitude, if they're hungry. Many will steer clear of us Humans, but there are those few, that may choose to encounter us. Being aware of that and being prepared just might save me a Band-Aid or two.
I didn't see one yesterday. I didn't see any Bears or other possible predators, either. I was prepared though, even it it was just a stick.
Stay alert in your Jungle, wherever it is, and keep in mind that predators are out there and may decide to encounter you.
