Do keyword rich domain names work for Google

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with NeNet

Good Morning Everyone,

Today's tip is going to be on keyword rich domain names.
This post will be WORDY, but please read to the end, there is a powerful traffic generating tip for you here.

I know this post is going to get me some opposition, but simply put, google rankings don't lie.

I will give several examples of keyword rich domain names, and how they quickly rank in google.

Ok, heres the meat and potatoes..

Over the years, I have had more than a few conversations with "seo experts" about keyword rich domains.
I will give you my take on the subject, and also provide some compelling proof that what I am telling you
really does work. As always, I will provide real life domains to validate what I am telling you..

About 3 weeks ago, I had a conversation with a "seo expert" :) I would like to say seo EX-EXPERT...
We debated about the validity of exact keyword domains..

Before I go too far, let me take a quick rabbit trail for a second..

Hypothetical situation: --- You get a call (or an email)... the LYING party on the other end of it says something
like this "We noticed you were not anywhere to be found in google".... I don't think I need to go any further on
that... you know the type of email or call.. We have all gotten them. When you get a call or email like that, let me
give you 1 MILLION dollars worth of FREE advice... HANG UP!

Ok, back to my conversation with this WANT TO BE SEO... They called to tell me they couldn't find me in google.
I get about 200 calls or emails a month by these scam artists.. Here are the facts, they found me in google. How
ridiculous, and how ignorant are they to try that technique... Ok, if you didn't find me in google, how did you find me??? Here is what they do... They find you in google, then they search for non relevant keywords, or something
that even might benefit you, but they are scam artists none the less.. So I always play with them to show them how little they actually know...

So I say to him, the site you are calling me about is an exact keyword domain and I get more business than I need from those keywords alone. He says to me "exact keyword domains don't really rank", I say to him you are crazy and shouldn't be calling yourself a SEO.. Then I got to thinking, I need some proof to debunk these fools when they call, and when I have this same dumb conversation with other seo's who will fight to the death on this topic.  Heres what I did. I looked for a search term with a massive amount of results in google. The one I found was "the link doctor" when I searched that term, google returns over 4.7 BILLION (not million, but BILLION) results. Then I went to godaddy.com and checked if the domain with those keywords was available... It was.

Ok, I registered the domain "thelinkdoctor.com" I then put up my site in about 10 minutes. The site has 3 words of content on it "the link doctor" and it of course has to have at least 1 image, I chose a smiley face. The site was put up on March 11 of this year. One week later, it was #6 in google.com for the keyword search "the link doctor"
No content, no links, no thousands of dollars worth of seo. 10 minutes of my time, and here we are on google.

I may use the site to sell some links, or I may just use it to frustrate SEO EXPERTS :)

OK, here is how this can apply to your site..

Lets use an example, I have a website (the one I am working now to grow) www.homesalesonline.net
The exact keyword domain does not get alot of search volume, but it is a goldmine. A diamond in disguise.

Think about this..

The main website www.homesalesonline.net is keyword rich for "home sales online" (the bait that gets me on
the radar screen and gets my site spidered regularly)..

Think outside the box for a minute, and look how a domain is formed in dns.

You have the domain name homesalesonline.net
You have a host name within dns for that domain "WWW"
What if I created more host names in my dns like baltimore, california, maryland, fsbo, etc...
What if I created sites on all the following like this:

baltimore.homesalesonline.net - targets the keywords "baltimore home sales"
california.homesalesonline.net - targets the keywords "california home sales"
maryland.homesalesonline.net - targets the keywords "maryland home sales"

When I am done with this site, I will have keyword rich subdomains for every city, state, etc.. It takes
time to put up the subdomains, but they will stay SOLIDLY planted in the #1 or #2 position of google,
yahoo, bing, and whatever else search engine spiders them. There is NO defence against this technique.
Every site I have put up this way STAYS at the top. Then you just add hosts for quality keywords.

Get the point? I just took 1 domain and got 4 websites out of it. (Actually in my case, I will get hundreds)!!
It is not the websites, but the keywords that get you $$$
"home sales online" gets few searches monthly, but "california home sales" "baltimore home sales" etc can get TONS!

I have one customer that we used this technique on, and here are their numbers for last month..

I would encourage you to look at the "Search" link on the left side of the stats page. It tells all.
The numbers in the "Search" column tell how many times that given keyword was clicked through.

Now, the most important part of being able to use this technique without being penalized by google..
Do NOT duplicate content from one subdomain to the next, that wil get you in trouble with google QUICK!.
When you put up a subdomain, google treats it as the main domain. Make sure you link from your main domain
to your subdomains, and back. Trust me guys and gals, this does work.

Ok, last point here...
It is Good Friday, lets remember the sacrifice that He made for us all!
Have a blessed weekend, don't work too much, enjoy your families, and
wishing you all a blessed and happy Easter.

See you all at the top!

Joe

Cheryl, Thank you for commenting... Yes, feel free to call anytime. Seo is not that hard to do if you approach it like you would do anything else, one step at a time. like building a house... Foundation, framing, roof, shingles.. I am not a builder, but you understand the point.. Your foundation is choosing proper keywords, framing would be defining your goal for the site.. (notice, theres no site built yet).. Then comes a template, then content, then fine tune the metadata, fine tune the content, meta, content, meta, etc.. So you retired from the Army, and now work in northern va... hmmmm I think I have been down that road myself.. Did some years in the Marine Corps, then re-upped into the Army, did intel, landed in Springfield VA... you know the drill.. Here's to your great success... Thanks for serving your country!

Have a great Easter!

AJ, Thanks for commenting. Yes, seo does take time to sink in... It kind of grows on ya.. As far as motorcycles, I did a SEO job about 10 years ago for Mrcycleparts.com , then I did Necycle.com, then SalvageMotorcycleParts.Com, then vintagemotorcycleparts.net .. These were all for different customers.. They all referred me to the others... how crazy huh.. I love motorcycles myself, just tired of broken bones and roadrash..

I don't drive em anymore, but I enjoy SEOing their sites..

Wishing you best success in your business! Have a great Easter!

Hey Joe.  Thx for your comment. Last night I reserved 5 keyword rich domains.  I think I will buy 2 today.  Surprisingly, the exact key words I wanted for my 2 key categories are available and I think I'm going to buy these 2 today (and then try those out).  I may also buy 1-2 more later in the year, but need to figure out my overall strategy first.

Thx for advice above, I may email you.  I think my questions are also along the lines of separate sites vs. having sites point to each other (and how much time/money I can dedicate towards it).

Does your approach work if the website points to another site or does it need to be stand alone?

Joe, great lesson for all of us.  I get so many calls and emails promising to rank me #1 on google.  I have stayed away so far from spending money on it and sometimes it gets tempting.  I am going to bookmark your post and start working on it right away!

I have taken SEO classes and paid a "pro" to make me rank higher.  So now I'm on page 1 for certain terms but it costs a lot.  I'm not sure I understand everything you are saying, but I am surely going to look into it more.  Thanks so much!

Thanks for the informative SEO post - have not seen the subdomain approach used much but do agree with the keyword rich domain name concept. Keyword rich url's definietly seem to work best and moving the keywords to the front is also the important part of your approach. May look at your services as well. Thanks

Joe, If you ever make it up toward Seattle I do hope you will look me up. I attended my first re-bar boot camp in October of 1991 at the invitation of Rhonda Porter, a recognized expert blogger and more in these parts. The only analogy I can make for comparison sake's was that I felt like somebody would if they tried to take a sip of water from a fire hose that was turned on at full force. The information that was forthcoming was overwhelming, fast, and furious. I have been a student ever sense and I want to thank you for filling in a piece of information that was missing to me. Like you I am called continuously by these so-called SEO experts. I am embarrassed to share with the group (but I will) that I wasted several thousand dollars until I figured out these so called experts calling me where only experts at separating me from my hard earned money, and these days all of us need to count every dollar. If you could expound upon the sub-domain idea a little further it would be most graciously appreciated.

Good morning everyone,

It is clear to me that I have angered an SEO out there.. I have deleted posts made by William.. He refused to be identified by anything but William, and made several posts in here arguing about the techniques shared here.

There are many ways to do SEO... If William does not like the techniques I share here, he is free to write in his own
blog about a better way. He is NOT free to come into my blog and "mark territory".. My tips are free, and will help many to get better placement. If someone disagrees with my method, that is fine, but when someone comes in here argueing every point, and refuses to be identified, I have to believe he is one of the un-ethical ones that are being exposed in these posts..

Bottom line, Ligitimate SEO's are willing to be identified, they have great references, and they have enough business that they don't need to go into other's blogs to "mark territory"

I think my next post will be on "How to know if a SEO is a sheep or a wolf"

We have struck a nerve here.. Folks, I am not here to argue, I am not charging anyone for these tips, I believe I have provided many verifyable examples here where these tips have helped people to get ranking.. I question "William's" motive for debating, and I am sitting up at 2:20 A.M. now justifying deleting his posts..

Here is the bottom line.. There are many ways to get great rankings. Most of you are Real Estate agents, not SEO people.. How long would it take you to teach me Real Estate? There are "other" techniques to do SEO, but I am unable to "teach" them here in a simple format.. I am sharing easy techniques that you can do to better your rankings. Sure, I may pick up a job here or there for doing the really hard keyword stuff, but I will save a bunch of people a bunch of money by helping you to make simple changes that better your rankings without paying huge amounts of money for them. My only point in making this post in the first place was to share how "exact keyword domains" (or subdomains) quickly rank in google... I will not debate what there is too much proof out there on... I got sucked in by a hostile competitor into arguing about technique.. I won't do it again.. I am going to focus my efforts on sharing valuable information here, not fighting someone who doesn't even have enough backbone to identify themself...

Hey Joe,

Thank you for the information.  You have laid out a pretty simple approach to SEO, and I like it.  I was on this path with some of my domains and sub domains, but you have brought clarity to where I was going.

Best of success to you this year!

Lori, Thanks for commenting! Yes, it can be tempting, but remember one thing. When a SEO calls you and says "I couldn't find you" THEY ARE LYING! Just make the changes to your site that need to be made, be patient, (changes typically take a minimum of 2 weeks to 30 days to show up), and then make more adjustments.. It is how I eat elephant... One bite at a time.. To your success!

Margaret, Thanks for commenting! Just remember, SEO takes time and money, but the good news is that it is a balance.. When you have more time than you have money, do the stuff yourself.. The only time SEO really costs is when you want HUGE changes FAST... The 2 are hard to balance.. My approach in coaching my customers has always been take your time and save your money.. Point here is this.. My free tips will help many to get better ranking. It is impossible to teach everything that needs to be known about SEO in these posts. So the areas I teach are things that I know people will be able to digest and do themselves.. Have a great day!
