Portability will allow Florida homestead owners to transfer all or some of their accumulated SAVE OR HOME (SOH) benefit to a new Florida home within two years.
The accumulated SOH benefit is difference between the just or market value and the assessed value of the homestead.
The "plan" is to have the same percentage of assessed value to just value as the previus homestead home before.
Without portability, when a homestead owner sold and purchase a new home the new homestead would be assessed at the market at the time of sale. Effectively starting all over again.
Get out and vote Jan. 29th, the new tax proposal will be on the ballet.
