What's in the Camera Bag?

Margaret thought someone might want to know what we have in our camera bags when we go on a photo shoot.  She's off-line for the next week, so I am standing in for her.

Pelican Case (waterproof case)

  • Canon 5D back
  • 24mm Tilt/Shift lens
  • 35-105 zoom lens
  • alcohol wipes
  • polarizing lens cap for 24 mm lens
  • wall charger for Canon battery
  • Nikon point/shoot camera
  • wall charger for Nikon camera
  • Canon 580ex flash with 2ft extension

In a luggage bag (small), we keep the miscellaneous lighting equipment

  • 36 inch gold/silver reflector
  • 24 incho gold/silver reflector
  • Two Vivitar manual flashes
  • 36 Alkaline batteries (AA)
  • 12 fully charged rechargeable batteries (AA)
  • alcohol wipes
  • spare tripod camera plate
  • spare fireplace gas key for lighting fires on-site
  • spare camera screws/hardware
  • 2 weinbaum electro-optical flash shoes
  • 1 A/C remote flash (can screw into lightbulb socket)
  • Two light dimmers
  • 1 harness support for holding pole camera

Miscellaneous (not in bags)

  • One umbrella stand
  • One translucent umbrella
  • One Manfrotto tripod

By grabbing the tripod in one hand with the luggage bag and the umbrella/stand with the Pelican case in the other, you can pretty much handle all the equipment without making a second trip back to the car.  That's why we use only one umbrella.

It sounds like you have a great system for the cameras, I bet you have systems for everything, this is a good thing.

Take care!

Wow! Sounds like you have some gear. Camera equipment is expensive, I know, I have a lot of stuff in my bag. One thing that I carry is Vaseline and several clear lens caps. It is amazing what you can do with these if you use your imagination.

I'm interested in the tilt shift lens.  I know what one is and what it's supposed to do, but Margaret indicated you take two photos with the lense shifted in different directions and then combine the photos.  Margaret even supplied some photos of the process, but I'm still foggy on it.  I guess I might understand better is I could see what each of the entire photos looked like before you cut off the unused portion.  I don't know, it just looks interesting to me.

Wow!  That's quite an impresssive equipment list.  I guess I'll have to get busy and sell another house or two!  :)

Wow,  it sounds like you are packed as if you are going on a vacation  :)  but I'm sure, it pays off, and from the pictures I've seen, YES it is well worth carrying all these equipment

Yiikes!  In my small blue Samsonite(TM) camera bag (purchased at a garage sale for $0.50) I have my Canon powerShot A95 loaded with rechargeable lithium AA batteries and a 1Gb high speed flash card, a spare set of 4 DuraCell(TM) AA batteries, and a spare flash card.  The USB cable to download to my laptop is also in one of the case pockets.  I do keep my tripod in the trunk and have found it useful for shooting virtual tour photos.

I have a nicer, larger camera case but opted for the smaller (and padded) one for most uses.

Lee,

I just made a post in the photography group that shows what you can do with the tilt/shift lens if you rotate it and shoot landscape and shift horizontally.  (You'll get the idea as soon as you see the photo.)
