Buying or selling a house can be a lot like climbing a steep mountain

Real Estate Agent with Thompson Company, REALTORS® MD594797

Buying or selling a home will usually go one of two ways: it's smooth sailing or a rocky road. There's some in between, too, but more often than not it will be one or the other. It's the smooth transactions that have me on edge the most. When everything is just moving along without a problem I keep wondering when that shoe will drop. I'm not asking for trouble, it's just the nature of the beast beauty of the business that issues will surface that need to be resolved.

Yes, more often than not, buying or selling a home can feel a lot like climbing a steep mountain. You may be thinking about buying your first home. Perhaps you would like to move up or need to downsize. You may find yourself in one of the most difficult situations of your life and are facing a short sale. Perhaps you have just gotten your next PCS orders or learned about a company transfer across the country.

Likely, all these situations have two big questions in common: Where do I begin? and How do I make it happen?

Whichever scenario you may be confronted with please know that there's help. Realtors® can help you. We want to help you. It's what we love to do! Don't hesitate to reach out and don't be afraid to ask questions. You can never ask too many questions by the way .. We'll guide you up that mountain and navigate any obstacles with you.

It takes quite a bit of determination, preparation, patience and sometimes a good sense of humor, too, to start on the path and to keep moving forward but together we'll make it to the top. The view from up there is spectacular - you'll be able to see just how far you've come and what we've been able to accomplish!

Feel free to throw your arms up in the air, to do a happy dance or to yell a woohoo from the top of your lungs when, not if, you have made it!

Andrea, that bit of humor is definitely important navigating the climb to home ownership.  Flexibility too.  Very nice analogy.

Hi Mona, thanks for adding flexibility to the list! It's necessary for sure. A bit of humor can make all the difference sometimes.

Hi Home, thank you! Naturally, smooth is nicer but it often just doesn't work out that way. More often than not it's not a question of if an issue will arise but when. That's why it is so important to have a Realtor® there for support, experience and guidance.

Great post Andrea!  Sometimes I think buyers feel like they should know everything (because of internet, HGTV, etc) and it is important for them to know that it is a tough road, and we as REALTORS are not the enemy trying to "sell, sell, sell" we are hear to help navigate and we want to help! -Kasey

Good morning Andrea,

Hi Kasey, thank you! There are def. some shows out there that make it all seem so easy and don't mention any of the typical pitfalls.

Hi Lisa, prepare for the worst and hope for the best! Something always comes up, it's knowing how to tackle an issue or where to turn for help that makes a big difference.

Hi Andrea, Love that postive attitude. It always great when a buyer communicates well with you and asks questions. It often can help in avoiding some of those blips along the way. How one deals with those blips is key.

Hi Cindy, I've had clients apologize for asking "all those questions" or started out with "I hope I'm not bothering you but ...". Nope, there is no such thing as too many questions and it's never a bother!

Hi Brenda, it does feel like it sometimes. Where do begin? And all those many little details .. That's where we come in!
