The Snug Harbor neighborhood in Staten Island is a very old one. The anchor of the entire neighborhood is Sailor's Snug Harbor or Snug Harbor Cultural Center as it is currently known. Originally instituted as a home for retired sailors it has now become the site of Staten Island's 80+ acres of botanical gardens, historically significant buildings and jaw dropping architecture, museums, art galleries, theaters, a vineyard and even a chapel.
The homes in the area mirror Snug Harbor's history in their diversity: sprawling 19th century Victorians, beautiful authentic colonials and even row homes give Snug Harbor her character.
The neighborhood is often overlooked by home buyers, but wrongly so. The architecture here is not often seen in any neighborhood and the proximity to Manhattan via the ferry which is 8 minutes away is hard to beat.
Snug Harbor has seen a resurgence in home restorations and the creation of recreational activities in the way of new restaurants and the famous Gerardi's Farmer's Market is an island-wide draw.
For new home buyers and real estate professionals alike, Snug Harbor should be on your list of neighborhoods to go see!
