There are so many places in and around Salida Colorado that are Dog friendly. The area is surrounded by national forest with trails abounding. Some of the trails near town are leash only but further out, you and your dog can do a miriad of off leash walks. If you want help getting your dog ready for hiking in the woods, Tony Bussing at Gone to the Dogs actually takes dogs on hikes for a fee to help train them. See the video below on Tony and Laura's shop and training facility...
The Arkansas River flows through town so you will often see folks down at the river on hot days, giving their dogs a chance to spash and play.
You will meet lots of folks in town just walking your dog. Every restaurant in town with outdoor seating will allow your dog to come with you as you dine.
On Saturdays and Wednesdays at 9, Tony hosts a free 1 hour dog walk... we go on it often. A few great tips on obedience and great company!
We have a large dog park with some agiligy equipment on Holman Avenue. We have met folks who have become friends at that park.
Actually, many of the stores will allow a well mannered canine on leash to shop with their owners.
If you are wanting some enhanced training for your dog, try Bark Valley Dog Club. They meet every Saturday afternoon for agility training.
Elyse, thanks. It is quite nice to be in a place where our furry friends are welcome isn't it?
Joan, yes, the river is an added bonus for dogs and humans alike!
Carie, Thanks! Salida is lovely. Stop by some time!
Sheila, Thank you. You can tell this is one of my passions eh? Dogs, photos, video. Life is good. And, come on down! I will have a nice cup of coffee or tea waiting!
Paula~great concept on having a trainer handy to teach dogs how to hike! This is what's been great about this contest, finding all of these animal advocates and services that really step up for the good of our pets....and OURSELVES.
