Since You're Always Thinking Ahead, Right?

Since you're on AR and probably have your own blog elsewhere in the blogosphere, you're already thinking "outside of the box" and into the future. And since no one person is smarter than the collective wisdom of everyone here on AR, let's all benefit by sharing our ideas with one another and give credit where credit is due.

Have you come up with anything new, different, better to improve your business and better position yourself against the competition? Do you have any predictions for trends or technologies that will shape the real estate industry in the future? And what are some of your success stories?

Here are some ideas to share with you and who to thank...

  • I have learned that blogs are not just for personal ranting and raving. They're becoming a greater force in the business world by the moment. There are many out there who generate seller and buyer leads from their blogs consistently and have saved considerable money by going the blog route rather than traditional marketing.
  • Sites such as CopyBlogger and Mary McKnight's blog have helped hundreds, if not thousands of people get their blog off the ground and start producing results almost immediately. My blogs real/diaBlog, Loudoun Stats and the Ashburn Community Blog are just getting off the ground, but I have already seen results. Without the teachings and expertise of others that shared selflessly, I would be nowhere today. I owe my success to them.
  • It seems that rethinking the way you market and build your name is necessary going forward. Print media is dying, as is it's exuberant cost. Blogs are free in many instances and can produce equal if not better results than print media.
  • If you are paying for keywords, you may want to analyze whether your competitors can organically beat out your spot on the results page by simply having an excellent, content and back-link rich blog. SEO is not only about paying for placement - just ask Google.

So what you have you come up with? And to whom can you attribute your success?

Hey Danilo,

I still think it's important to keep a mix of offline and online print and articles. Even though I blog, I also write for a newspaper and a few magazines in CA :)

Speaking only of the Northern VA area and our team, print media is producing fewer and fewer results while our online presence is continously producing greater results. We used to run a 2 page color ad in the most popular paper in the area and it produced great results up until the beginning of last year. Now, it barely produces a few calls per month while our web inquires/leads are over 100 per month.

Not all parts of the country are in the same boat as we are so each of us may have a valid point depending on the region in question.

And my hats off to you (my father was a journalist for over 50 years)!

Anthony,

Sounds like your local paper understands the market and is adapting to stay competitive. I can't say the same for our local paper. Their circulation has gone down, their online presence in minimal and horrible yet, they recently increased their rates.

And every idea no matter how "small" it may seem is a good one because it may be something someone else never thought about, but could be of benefit to them. I don't understand why so few people share their successes with others. Perhaps it's because they think that others are competition. Perhaps it's because they don't understand how successful and powerful collective wisdom is (try reading Mavericks At Work).
