Over the past 10 years I estimate that I have talked more than 50% of clients who visit me out of refinancing. I only earn a commission when I fund a loan. So, how do I make money by talking people out of loans? Because, the clients I talk to appreciate the education and honesty so much that they go out of their way to refer to me.
So much of my time is spent just talking to people about various financial situations. They talk to me about insurance, taxes, interest rates, government policies, Wall Street, credit....you name it. They expect me to be up to date and knowledgeable, and, I am.
I joined the Santa Clara Bar Association and the California Association of CPS's so that I am in the loop for all of the current legal and tax situations that my clients could encounter. I also became a Certified Mortgage Planning Specialist, which required that I study and pass an exam for the certification. Of course I make sure that I don't overstep my bounds and refer clients to Attorneys, CPAs. and Financial Advisor's when needed. But the information makes me a starting point for clients and this is also a service where I don't earn income-or do I?
I recommend to every professional that they do business the way I do. Honesty, integrity, and knowledge will pay off. I will fund more than $38,000,000 in loans in a "down year". Having the courage to always give honest advice and look out for the good of the client has blessed me over and over.
