Are Ceilings Making A Comeback?

By
Home Stager with Abella Home Staging & Redesign

Are ceilings making a comeback? For many years now ceilings have been painted white. But lately I've been seeing color on the ceilings. High ceiling are especially beautiful when painted a color since it tends to bring it down, creating a more intimate feeling. As a home stager and redesigner of Abella Home Staging & Redesign I have always recommended painted ceilings white but lately I've had a change of heart. And with good reasons!!

HomeInteriorDesign.com

Here is a great example. This ceiling makes a statement!! Done in traditional design, the color works beautiful and create a space you soon won't forget.

Houzz

When you look at this picture, you think of summer's by the beach. White floors and blue ceiling have that effect. Typically floors would be blue and ceiling would be white. But in this case it's reverse! Kind of reminds you of a blue sky and pristine sand!!

Los Angeles Times Home & Garden

Now this may not be for everyone, but it certainly grabs your attention!! Painting the ceiling that vibrant color draws your eyes up and definitely makes a statement. Now as homestager I would not recommend this bold chose, because it will not appeal to everyone. But as a redesigner it may not be my chose of color but I love the statement it makes.

The American Tin Ceiling Co

Of course we've all seen tin ceiling. They have made a strong comeback. I remember when I was a child my grandparent's had tin ceiling in their brownstone home in Brooklyn. They come in many shapes and colors. But personally I would use them in high ceilings only. I think they tend to bring the ceiling down a little more then I would like!

fanatic finish

Coffered ceilings, one of my personal favorite. I love the way it looks. Makes any room look high end. Certainly commend attention and rightly so!! I've even seen where they painted inside the square. Beautiful!!

As you can see there are many ways to treat your ceiling. In fact, some say ceiling are your 5th wall!! Depending on what you chose you can make a room seem warm, traditional, classic, funky and very high end!! Your chose. I'm just glad they are here to stay!!

Yeah, I know what you mean. I have white on my ceiling too, but I'm more open to trying something new, Like paintable wallpaper on the ceiling. Looks like a coffered ceiling without the expense and when I tire of it I simply peel it off!!

Like you, I remember the old tin ceilings and have seen a resurgence of them in newer properties over recent years.  Love the examples you provided of the interesting ceiling variations out there.

Carmen - Cool examples here. I like all of them, but I would like the blue ceiling in the third picture much better if the crown molding wasn't the same color.

Carmen, as long as the ceiling isn't popcorn, my personal dislike. I like tin ceilings depending on the room, but I think I like white ceilings best. Thanks for your post today,

Camela:

I live in a city where there are still many Victorian and craftsmen homes.  Most people value the home and either want to maintain them or renovate them to their original condition.  So box beam ceilings and tin ceilings are the norm.

Jason, Hum! what color would you have picked?  Perhaps dark color on trim and lighter version on the ceiling?
