Here's your Sign

This last couple of weeks, I have had the opportunity to walk several 35 Acre parcels that are currently on the market here in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Some of them are truly amazing pieces of land.

With breath-taking views.

THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE

As I came upon several of these listings, I noticed many of the listing Agents/Agencies signs had been knocked over. Mostly by the wind. (Evidence of ground disturbance). Some not planted deep enough into the soil. (Probably when snow was deep enough to support the sign) and then there were the couple that had been pulled out of the ground and laid down to avoid being spotted by passers-by.(Just the holes where the sign was and no other ground disturbance)

Every sign that was down, regardless of which Agent/Agency was represented, I re-planted in firm ground to be visible once again. Professional Courtesy still is one of the things I believe in.

Then there are the Listings I take over from the previous Agent who's listing expired. Some of these areas are in very isolated parts of the County. I know of a couple of Agents that would just pull the other's sign and hide it from view and plant their sign in its place. This is where I think these Agents could actually Cowboy Up and take that old sign back to town and return it to the respective Agency.

I just walk into the place of business, hand them their old signage and literally say, "HERE'S YOUR SIGN!" That's sorta who I am...   :)

I know many out there would never do this. (Taking the sign back to the previous Listing Company) But it is one of the things I will do to help out a fellow REALTOR®. No matter which company he or she works for.  If I can help out in any way, I'll do it. That's also a part of who I am.   :)

I wonder, does anyone else do this?

Yes good neighbors do not compete unfairly.  Be ethical and honest is important in life.  Thank you for how you are.

"Cowboy up" - great expression!   I would opt for the "right" thing, which is bringing the sign back.  We bought property (25 acres) in a spot about 2 hours from our home, and one day when we were there, exploring, we found a very old real estate sign stuck on a hill.  Since we were leaving momentarily, we didn't drive around trying to find the real estate company, but I did call and leave a message that we had found their sign, and to please call if they wanted it back.  They were not the company WE purchased the property from, so it was a very old sign and I wasn't sure if they were even still in business.  I received a very happy call back from the agent indicating she was thrilled because these signs are very expensive, and I directed her via cell to the exact location.  I definitely think returning the sign is the way to go.

Kat ~ I agree. I know we're all getting busier with the return of the Season, but taking that extra second or two to help out another REALTOR®, I think, is a nice way to not only get the sign back to its rightful owner, but could also lead to another networking opportunity. Plus, it's a another way to help keep that new listing free from clutter. Thanks for stopping by.
