The other day one of the agents in my office, MOUNTAIN COUNTRY REALTY, asked me what brought me more business: Zillow, Market Leader, Blogging, etc. He followed with a comment about my points here on AR. "You are so far ahead of everyone in our "neck of the woods."

First off, I told him I truly believe that ActiveRain brings me more business, as it leads a consumer, one way or another, to my lead generators after they've found one of my posts. Hands down, my postings are  the cause (a good one) of approx. 75% of my business which, I must say, has been great the last couple years.

Points, well, now that's another story. I told him the points look cool if that's what you're in to; competing with others here to see how many points you can get to zoom by them. BUT, if the posts you are writing (for points) don't bring you squat, what the heck is the use of counting them? Focus on writing good content to bring you business. Don't sweat those stupid points.

All that said, I am nearing 1/2 million points! Holy Moly, that is quite a few, isn't it? When I first started here in 2007, I admit, I would toss anything out in the blogging world  to try & make it stick just to get points. That got old and brought no biz. That didn't last long...

And here I sit telling you it is NOT about points, it is all about CONTENT and what the consuming is looking for. It really is NOT all about YOU,  it's about what you produce.

By the way, AR Gods, do I get a Gold Medal of some sort when I hit that 500,000?  Just thought I'd ask. :-) Heehee

It is about the interaction and potential for business as well.  Referrals are a part of our business and AR has allowed me more opportunities.

Dan; I agree. But the question from my fellow Realtor was, "Where does your business come from?" It comes from blogging and posting good content.

Wallace; I bet you do.  Consumers find something they like with our posts and will "follow" us. I still have consumers finding me off posts I've writtern years ago. Amazing.

Kat - content is key. Blogging is like getting a referral - as people will follow and read our blogs to get to know us and then just call to work with us. It's great.

It is all about visibility and links. In your community, you dominate the Internet, that's a huge benefit in a resort area.

Linda; Content in any business is key, right? Points are just a little bonus, in my world.

Karen; It is about visibility, and good content will produce that. I blog for business (90%) of the time. I have worked hard to be the dominate force in my area... good content pays off.
