CAMPS
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida will be presenting summer camps throughout the First Coast. In St. Augustine, the camp will run from May 29 through Aug. 10. Camp activities range from reading and computer programs to sports, games and swimming. The cost is $230, and the sessions will be at 200 S. Nature and history: The St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum will be holding their Wonders of Discovery Summer Camp from June 4 to August 10. Each camp has a different subject, such as pirates, sailing, nature and fossils. For members, the cost is $150 per student. Non-members pay $175, with registration open until June 1. Included in the cost of the camp is transportation and admission cost for the field trips. Also included is a camp T-shirt, participation in the hot lunch program, and all supplies for the camper for the week. A new Summer Archaeology Camp, provided by The City of St. Augustine's Department of Heritage Tourism, will provide a place for curious youngsters to dig through history. City Archaeologist Carl Halbirt will guide children through history using actual artifacts, such as cannonballs, pottery, arrow points, and bone fragments. Days will include activities and tours to orient the camper to St. Augustine's rich archaeology and history, plus additional cooking, nature, and arts and crafts activities. Afternoons will be spent digging, sifting and screening alongside real archaeologists. Two one-week camps will take place in the Colonial Spanish Quarter Museum and Government House, running Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The weeks will start June 4 and June 11. Camp is for those students entering fourth or fifth grade next fall and the cost per week is $175 or $150 for St. Augustine Trust for Historic Preservation members. Peace: The Florida Coalition for Peace and Justice is offering two sessions of Summer Peace Camp on a farm near Gainesville. The first session, Panther Camp, for ages 15 to 17, will take place June 24 to 30. The second camp, for ages 10 to 14, will be July 15 to 21. Both camps will include drama, arts and crafts, swimming, canoeing and sports. The fees are on a sliding scale from $175 to $300 depending on the family income. They also have scholarships available for campers who could not come otherwise. The camp is also looking for counselors. THE ARTS
The St. Augustine Community School of Performing Arts will be offering a summer of fun in eight one-week sessions of music, painting, drama and more. All camps are Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon. Week one, the SACSPA Sampler, starts May 21 and includes dance, fashion, poetry, etiquette, sign language, art and music. Other sessions include activities such as pottery, musical games and drama. The last camp of the summer starts July 30. Anastasia Baptist Church will be hosting students who have finished first through sixth grades at a Summer Music and Art Camp from July 23 to 27, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily. Students will participate in choir and choreography as well as other electives such as painting, crafts, sign language, self-portrait and electronic dance praise. Campers will also receive a camp T-shirt and devotion book. Cost is $45 per child and $35 for each additional sibling from the same household. For more information, call 471-2166.
Visual arts: The St. Augustine Art Association will hold three sessions for the kiddos to get creative. The week-long camps run from 9 a.m. to noon. The first two are for students in the first through sixth grades. Spectacular Spain, starting June 11, will have children using paint, collage, tile and a variety of techniques to create images and objects that interpret the unique culture of Spain. Sock Art it To Me: the 1960s, starting June 18, will bring kids back to the age of the Peter Max and The Beatles. Using a variety of techniques, kids will create jewelry, tie-dyed T-shirts and pop art-inspired posters that interpret the whimsical, wonderful 1960s.
The session starting June 25 will provide teens a chance to build their portfolio with works in a variety of media. Each day, a different professional artist will teach a new technique.

At the First Coast Technical Institute Kid's Art Camp, children ages 8 to 12 can learn to draw wildlife and use different techniques with painting. Camps are 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The cost is $89 for all six classes: June 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21.
At their Teen Art Camp, for ages 13 to 17, teens can learn to draw with perspective and shading as a method to express feelings without words. Photography: Students interested in photography can learn more about the art at the Southeast Museum of Photography at Daytona Beach Community College this summer. Their Kids in College program will lead children ages 9 to 14 through activities that will teach them camera skills, digital graphics, fine art techniques and more. Classes are offered for both beginner and intermediate levels. The first session, at $150, runs for two weeks and starts June 4. Performing arts: Children 7 to 17 can participate in the production of the musical "Annie" this summer at The Academy of Performing Arts Summer Program from July 9 to Aug. 5. The camp will be held from noon to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday. Register before June 1 for a discounted rate of $285. Later registration costs $325. In addition to the musical, classes will be held in dancing, singing, acting, improvisation, audition techniques, rehearsal techniques, and production and design. Each cast member will receive a Certificate of Achievement as well as a keepsake script. Performances are scheduled for August 4 and 5. All students will be cast. Culinary arts: FCTI will be offering cooking camps for children and teens this summer from June through July. Children ages 8 to 12 can play chef for a week in camps with themes such as Home Cooking from the Heartland, Campfire Cookout, and a Pacific Luau. The classes will cover the basics of food preparation, good nutrition, kitchen safety, and how to properly use various kitchen gadgets. The $195 fee includes all materials, groceries and professional instruction for the four-day session.
Teens aged 13 to 17 can learn skills from cake baking and decorating to cooking, using the styles of Italian, Caribbean, Hispanic and Asian cuisines. The $195 fee includes all food costs, materials, instruction and lunch.

The Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa in Fort Lauderdale will be holding their First-Ever Culinary Camp for Teens this summer under the auspices of Renowned Chef Dean Max, of the Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa's 3030 Ocean restaurant. Ambitious food enthusiasts, ages 16 through 18, will learn everything from working with vendors to planning and executing a menu under the tutelage of Chef Max. This six-night learning vacation is being offered August 11 to 17 and is priced at $680 per night, inclusive of culinary instruction for one teen and an ocean-view guest room, which accommodates a family of four so mom and dad can enjoy a vacation while junior cooks. SPORTS
Baseball: Two session of Dave Barnett's First City Baseball Camp will be held this summer at Flagler Stadium. The camp, for children aged 6 to 12, will incorporate character development into quality baseball instruction. The sessions, which cost $95, begin May 29 and June 11. Basketball: The 20th annual Bo Clark Basketball Camp 2007 continues for three weeks this year, running June 11 to June 15, June 18 to 22, and June 25 to 29.
Sessions are held at the Flagler College gym, with morning, afternoon and all-day sessions for boys and girls ages 5 through 18 at all levels of play. Each camper receives a camp basketball and T-shirt.
A new expanded "Big 12" division offers more play for 15- to 17-year-olds. Cost is $80 for one session, with multiple discounts offered for campers who attend more than one session. Pre-registration is recommended, but campers may walk up and register on any Monday or Tuesday of any week at the Flagler gym.

The ninth annual Bo Clark Father-Son Basketball Camp is planned at the Flagler gym, from 6 to 9 p.m. June 15 and from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 16. T-shirts will be provided. Cost is $90 per father-son pair and includes a pizza party Friday and lunch on Saturday.

Football: Falcon Football Youth Camp will be held July 16 to July 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Pedro Menendez High School. All Students who will be entering the first through eighth grades are invited. The $50 fee includes a camp T-shirt and Certificate. Basic, intermediate and advanced football skills will be taught by the Menendez Football coaching staff and players. Team building skills will also be emphasized. For all the students entering ninth grade next year, Falcon Football Freshman Camp will take place July 30 to Aug. 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Menendez High School. The cost is $50, which includes a camp T-shirt and certificate. Basic, intermediate and advanced football skills, with an emphasis on team-building skills, will be taught by the Menendez Football coaching staff and players. Golf: The PGA Tour Golf Academy at the World Golf Village is offering programs for youths of all skill level. Their five-day camp includes daily instruction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., golf after instruction, a private World Golf Hall of Fame tour and more. The cost for commuter students is $695. Those who sleepover at the camp will receive six nights accommodations at the Renaissance Resort. Parents or chaperones receive all meals and a free stay. The price for those campers is $995 for a double or $1,295 for a single.

The First Tee of St. Johns County will be holding a camp aimed at teaching kids the traits of honesty, integrity and sportsmanship through the game of golf. Each session will focus on putting, chipping, pitching and full swing as well as playing on the course. Classes are segmented into PrePAR, for ages 6 and 7; PAR for beginners 8 years and older; BIRDIE/EAGLE/TOUR for advanced students; and the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Camp, for girls 7 and older. The four-day camps, at an hour and a half a day, cost $60. They run from May 28 to July 12. Gymnastics: Half-day gymnastics camps are available throughout the summer at Island Gymnastics. Camp activities include small group instruction in all activates related to artistic gymnastics. Training includes stretching, tumbling and conditioning, as well as instruction on the use of trampoline and mini tramp, uneven parallel bars, balance beam and vault table. Special emphasis will be on tumbling and acrobatics elements for gymnasts and cheerleaders. All material is taught in progressions from easy to hard to allow for both safety and fun. Campers will be grouped by age, ability and experience. Several time slots are available to allow families to plan their schedules and vacations. Visitors and daily participants always welcome. Horseback riding: Steppingstonefarm will be having three one-week horse camps during the first 3 weeks of June. Half day sessions, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will cost $180. Full day camp costs $250. During the week, children 8 and older will learn horse care, riding and safety while following 4H rules. The camp is located at 2191 Tocoi Terrace, off County Road 214. Sailing: Kids ages 9 to 14 can learn to sail this summer with a one-week course with Sailors, Paddlers and Rowers of St Augustine, or SPARS. For a cost of $125, students will learn from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on a fleet of Optimist Prams. Six sessions are available through the summer, starting May 21, with the last session starting August 6.
