Kansas City is in 'Tornado Alley' but we're in a valley so the tornados usually pass over us. We're expecting wind gusts over 40mph today and the dogs have been pretty restless all night but it looks like the storms will finish passing by sunrise. 
We will keep the people of Woodward OK in our prayers.
A half-mile wide wedge tornado hit Woodward OK about 12:25am. Damage is extensive. The American Red Cross is going in as soon as the storm passes. The governor declared a state of emergency after a tornado hit just outside of Wichita KS. Derby KS also took a direct hit. A tornado also hit Thurman IA and another damaged the Medical Center in Creston IA. Parts of Texas had some damage and are still under severe weather warnings.

Photo taken by a friend of Jason M Wagoner from facebook. The storms are massive, stretching from Texas to the Great Lakes and into Canada. As you can see, the center of the storm is a little west of Kansas City. You would be surprised how much wind we
got from a storm center so far away. The clouds were flying by! Thunder is still rumbling; Kody has his Thundershirt on. The American Red Cross says to follow @woodwardnews for additional information if you're in Woodward OK. They have a shelter set up at 1310 Oklahoma, the Living Word Fellowship. Maybe the storm is a little bit closer to KC than it was an hour ago:
The storms will continue for several more hours. Pray that they don't do a lot of damage as they move northeast and please keep the people who were hit during the night in your thoughts and prayers. Those of us who live in Kansas City may want to count our blessings and carry an umbrella this stormy Sunday.

My Dad was a meteorologist so I guess it's in my blood. Modern technology makes it easier to keep track of what's happening. Twitter is especially good if you'r in a disaster and the power goes out. People can communicate via Twitter to find each other, shelter, water, and emergency supplies.
Wichita KS pics look similar. EMS and Red Cross are on the job at both sites. The rest of us can pray until they tell us what they need. Then we'll all donate and organize ways to get it to them.
