ACT! 2008

By

I recently bought a new laptop computer because my graphics card was failing on my old machine. Not knowing then what I know now, I purchased a 64-bit processor AND a 64-bit operating system with Windows Vista.

When I tried loading the latest version of ACT! Database & contact manager software, it didn't work. After being on the phone to India several times, I found out that ACT! will not run on a 64-bit operating system.  I considered changing software or just using Outlook or something, but I was so used to ACT! 2006 and I wanted to keep it simple..  So I thought.

well, I ended up purchasing the new OS 32-bit version of Windows Vista and completely wiped clean my hard rive & re-installed the new OS.

I'm happy to say that I am up and running with the new ACT! 2008 on my new (5 months old now) lap top with a 64-bit processor & a 32-bit Operating System.

Just a "bit" of warning if you plan to make any computer changes this new year...

all my best,

always looking out for your next move on Idaho Real Estate

Hello Don,

that sounds like a nightmare. I would like to know how you like your ACT software. I am in the process of finding a good database management software to use. Please let me know what you think about ACT. Thanks Gesine

Hi Gesine, I love ACT!  I have been using it for about 6 years & the new version (2008) is taking just a little to get used to, but all the basic functions are the same.  You can creat Activity Series, such as checklist items on a new listing or sale and have it notify you via an on-screen alarm to send a certain letter on day 7 for instance.  I think you will ove it!  I don't use the real estate specific version, just the basic ACT!

I hope that helps!  Al my best in 2008!

Don,

I am dealing with Vista issues on my laptop, considering going back to XP 32.  The version of Act I had used on my old XP machine requires a seperate SQL install.  Have you dealt with anything like this since you posted this blog post?
