Where the Dirt Road Leads, Is Up to You!
I am a country girl, born and raised in Northern Alabama. Now, I live in a beautiful, small waterfront community of Eastern North Carolina. I have always found something very special about dirt roads, and have yet to find one that didn't lead to something wonderful. Whether it be an overlook in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the path to a beautiful & peaceful pond or maybe just the way to grandma's house... always special!
This weekend, as my family and I were headed for a Cub Scout Family Campout, we turned down the dirt road that leads to Camp Sam Hatcher. The camp is several acres of property left to the Boy Scouts of America by Dr. Sam Hatcher, a man respected by all in the community and missed by those who knew him.
The road may not look like much to many folks, but I knew that if we stopped long enough to soak it in, paying attention to every detail, every sight, every sound.... It would be special. Oh sure, the truck is in desperate need of a good cleaning, and the dust has settled on everything we have (including our sinuses), but it is SOOOOOO worth it!
The camp is located off Nine Mile Road in Newport, North Carolina, and is smack dab in the middle of the Croatan National Forest. It is absolutely gorgeous, but of course.... I knew it would be. It is at the end of a dirt road!
No matter what you are experiencing, don't forget to look up (you might just see those beautiful Carolina Pines), look down (or you may miss the rare, wild Venus Fly Traps), look all around, soak in every precious thing and remember to always pay attention to details!
