Time spent blogging...how much to allocate

When I blog, I try to come up with something informative that will help others. That takes time. My last blog, by the time I finished reading other blogs and trying to come up with an idea to blog about, took up a couple hours of my time. I recognize that blogging will help me to keep in touch with other professionals, give me new ideas, and give my websites a better presence on the net, but how much is too much? My goal is to blog at least 2-3 times a week but can't take as much time as I have been spending. Any thoughts?

Hi Jamie:  I think the best way for you to tell how much time will be necessary for you to become a "top blogger" is to click on the city, county and state you are in, and see what your competition is like.  I think if you do blog posts only two or three times a week, it may not be enough.  See what happens... try it out... an re-evaluate in about six weeks.  The most important thing besides quality, is consistency.  Take care... Merry Christmas.

Jamie, blog about your SOI activities and local events to attract potential clients.  Every event is an excuse for two blog posts, one beforehand to let your readers know when and where, one afterward (with pictures) to let them know how it was.  Restaurant reviews are good local content.  Golf course reviews, places to fish, whatever hobbies you have that involve local knowledge are good subjects.  Take your digital camera and take a few pictures.  When you meet people at events and activities, tell them you cover these subjects in your blog.  It's a natural way to expand your SOI with prospects rather than your real estate peers.

Jamie,

I find things that I can get to localism by city this way I can replicate information for each city and since it is going to localism it might even get to a consumer's eyes.

Happy Holidays!

Jamie, be careful about copying and pasting boilerplate posts with different city names.  Online consumers tend to be more sophisticated.  When they find something you wrote, it's natural for them to look at your blog to see what else you're writing about.  If they see you operate in a cynical fashion, they are likely to dismiss you.

I spend many hours a week.  I now have an outside blog and I'm spending a couple hours a day building content.  I know it works and i am willing to put in the time to build it.
