Merry Christmas Mr. Miller

Tonight I am missing my childhood friend's father.  I can remember sitting
on their living room floor and listening to Mr. Miller as he sat on the piano
bench and read "Twas the Night Before Christmas".

When he finished we got to open up ONE gift (some how there was always one there for me!).
It was special that they always included me on Christmas Eve for the story reading.
On Christmas Day, they included me again and we all piled into the car and went to Crandon Park Beach.
It was tradition!

Mr. Miller passed away in June 2005 but he is in my thoughts every year when  Christmas rolls around.

Merry Christmas, Mr. Miller.  I miss you.

For any of you that are missing loved ones, especially today, may your memories keep you warm during this Holiday Season.

Merry Christmas, Y'all!!!

Nancy, it is hard when you lose someone close to you. It is even more painful at this time of year.

Nancy,

It is nice that he lives on in your memory which is one of the greatest gifts you could have given him.

Have a good New Year!

When my Grandfather passed away in 1993, we lost a family tradition of always going to his house for Christmas Eve and spending it with about 40 other relatives that we usually on get to see on the 4th of July and Christmas Eve. When he died in 1993, both traditions stopped and have been greatly missed by all. A lot of these relatives I have not seen since Christmas 1992. You don't realize how much one person can affect so many, until they are gone.

Thanks everyone for your comments.  Mr. Miller was indeed an extraordinary man.  He was a Pulitzer-Winning Reporter, wrote a couple of books and was loved and respected by many.

Read this article from the Washington Post  It pretty much catches who Gene Miller was.

I think that he even wrote his own obit...  Read his guest book and see how much he was admired.

Put 40 years of experience to work for you

Lots of reporters write their own obituaries, and even if they don't, most celebrity obits are written in advance. In case you didn't know. :) However, the fact that this guy has hung in your heart means he was extremely special. And to remember him at Christmas time is a touching tribute.

Nancy - Mr. Miller sounds just awesome and tremendously special.  Because he lives so close in your heart, I can't help but wonder how much of what you learned from him you convey to those in your own life now.

Wishing you the Happiest of New Years!

Jackie
