NOW ABOUT THOSE GUNS…

We need to talk about those guns while your home is being offered for sale.  This is an important issue for safety sake above all else.

Let me start by saying I am a 2nd Amendment advocate, I 100% support the American people’s right to keep and bear arms.  My definition of gun control is “Use Both Hands”  This however is a post about safety during the time a home is being sold.

Several years ago I was listing a home in a rather transient and potentially dangerous neighborhood.  The seller was an elderly widowed woman who was legally blind.   I had no problem with her owning guns, nor was I concerned that the 357 magnum handgun was in her nightstand drawer fully loaded.  I did however have a problem with the fact that she was legally blind and couldn’t make out my face just 3 feet away from her.

I asked my customer to show me the gun and asked if it was loaded, she replied “yes” to both!  I explained that having a loaded gun accessible to practically anyone while the house was listed for sale is a very dangerous situation and asked if she would unload the gun and place it under lock and key.

One thing that was drilled into me many years ago when I took a hunter safety class is that the only safe gun is a gun that is aimed in a safe direction!  When this sweet pistol packin’ grandma removed the gun from the drawer she innocently had it aiming right at my stomach EEK!  I swiftly grabbed her hands and the gun and turned them in a safe direction and I proceeded to unload the gun safely.

Everyone who owns guns has their reasons for wanting them, some for protection, some for sport, for some it is a necessity for varmints, while others it may be job related.    I respect people’s right to possess guns, but strongly urge them to keep them safe and preferably out of sight, especially when their home is being sold.

Now about those guns… Keep them secured, preferably unloaded, and out of sight for your safety and ours.

If you are thinking of selling your home I'd be more than happy to show you what the market says your home is worth.  I can also advise you how to safely keep your guns during the listing & sales times.

Wow, Sara -  I don't like anyone pointing a gun at me either, thank you!

Guns go in the same category as Jewelry, Money, Silverware, Prescription Meds, Collectibles, etc. - when you are selling your house, get these items locked away and out of sight.
