Minnesota's Early Spring???

Who said we had an early spring?

In the last week or so the weather has been cooler than in March.  Flowers have had blossoms almost ready to open for over 2 weeks instead of popping out in 4-5 days.

The farmers are just starting to think about working the fields because the ground temp is still to cold for the seeds to germinate.

WE had a very warm late winter and we are now paying for it with a below average spring that is causing major headaches for our food producers.

We must learn to be careful for what we wish for...we just may get it!

Evening William,  I'm betting that the lack of hard winter snow will also result in lower water tables and extra mosquitos  !!!

Overall it's still warmer than usual here and we are setting record high temps. Our snow pack in the high country is at a historic low for this time of year. We did get about 3 days of typical spring weather with some rain and snow, but not nearly enough. That's what's happening on the Western Slope of Colorado.

Bringing you home...

I'm ready to work on my gardens. I refuse to while it's cold because I want to make sure it truly warms up before I plant. It's gonna be a tough season for many. With the appple and fruit trees affected and the perennials confused as all heck. Hope it gets better from here. At least we are getting water.

As I drive through my area in Loudoun County, I see Azalea, Rhododendron, etc. in blossom.  Mine are not.  Granted, I'm a tad high in elevation and a tad north of Leesburg, but still. . . . .

Perhaps a few minutes longer daylight will do the trick.

That said, once they blossom, they will soon be gone.  That's a sad time.

At the Jersey Shore, unusually warm temperatures and the lack of rain spells wildfires in the Pinelands.  Best of luck to the farmers, here in NJ, MN and everywhere!
