It's Missing My Basset Week!!!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with 3:16 team REALTY ~ Locally-owned Prosper TX Real Estate Co. #9001154

This week, more than ever, I'm missing my sweet Basset Hound, Maxx. By Saturday 4/29, he would have left my family and I for doggie heaven for 4 years. Oh, how I missed thee!

Maxx was a great dog. A great couch potato personality. He was not only sweet, he was always just cool and chilled out as ever. Back in the days before I was this busy, I enjoyed gardening. In my first home, I had 88 rose bushes to care for. I was really into gardening.

Maxx would be there with me, sitting on the lawn just to watch his Mama dig holes all over the yard. He didn't need to be leashed. If someone passed by, he's just look at them. He never care to run away like some dogs do.

It took more than 2 years to mourn his passing, missing him so much every day. It was only the 3rd year that I could look at another Basset again. Since then, I've joined the North Texas Basset Hound Rescue Group (although not active) but I get to see the beautiful Basset Hounds up for adoption.

I'll never have another Basset like I did with Maxx. But sometimes, I do wish I had more acreage that I could foster Basset Hounds waiting for their forever home. That would be nice to do when I retire, I guess.

Until then, I'll just continue to check out the North Texas Basset Hound group when I need my Basset fix, or when I miss my dear Maxx.

Maxx, if you can read this from Heaven, just know that Mama miss you so much! I wished Meng and SherLi could grow up with you watching them in the yard, like you watched over me when I was gardening.

Maxx is considered our first born. We got him when we were poor college kids. At 8 weeks old, Maxx came home, slept on my head the first night and never slept anywhere else but next to me for the next 10 years.

We were big Football fans!!!

We got to Texas as fast as we could (1998 after graduation)!

Maxx had a sister, Mocha (my best friend had her). Mocha joined Maxx in heaven exactly 1 year later (5/1/2009)

Maxx went everywhere we went. Maxx didn't know he was a dog.

I miss you so much, Maxx!!!

Maxx looked like a super great guy.  I sure do understand the feeling of never being able to replace him and missing him so much.  Someday, Maxx will send someone to you.  It may not even be a Bassett, but you will know Maxx sent him or her.  I hope you'll let him/her in to your heart.

Loreena, I haven't had a dog since I was a child.  I can't handle them staying home by themselves while I work all day.  It would be a very lonely life for a dog.  Loved your post.

I know how much that is an empty place. Our most awesome friend passed away about 3 yrs ago and we miss him so much we never replaced him. Too painful and we didnt want to ruin a memory or even try to replace him in our space or our hearts.

My Peaches was like your Maxx. Dogs are wonderful pets, always accepting and providing unconditional love. It's difficult when they are no longer around, I miss her as well.

I know the feelling. We lost our Harry Dog 12 years ago in May, and I still miss him. We now have Ralph, and Suzie, and Pepper - but just like no one can replace a human, no one can replace a dog. They're all different and loved for who they are.

My beliefs are a bit different I guess. On those days when I keep calling everyone else "Harry" I truly believe it's because he's here, checking up to make sure we're OK.

We sure understand...it is almost kitten season...no one will replace a pet ....they each have their own personality...we too are missing the companionship that Cosmo our cat of 18.5 years gave us....no...not another Maxx...but you will love another dog for all the things he brings to your life.

Hi Lorena,

Great story and wonderful photos. My Princess was a red/white cocker spaniel and Maxx reminds me of her as she had the big face and droopy eyes too. She went to Doggy Heaven 2 years ago and I miss her and her sister Snowy everyday but I was lucky to have them for 15 years.

I love your photos and I know how hard it is to let them go. I felt like I had lost one of my kids but somehow we survive. Remember the good times and just knowing they are not sick anymore is rewarding. I like to think Snowy and Princess and sitting with my Mom and Dad in Heaven right now.

Thanks for such a wonderful post Lorena and we could feel your love for Maxx and your pain. God Bless. I hope you did get a new puppy as there are so many out there that need a wonderful family like yours.

He is a great bassett. Never ever gave us trouble except when he ate the entire bag of Kisses chocolate. He is a part of the family and are dearly missed.
