What the Future hold for Realtors

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Hannett, Wilson, Whitehouse & Burke, LLC REALTORS

I found this article (Protecting Realtors from a Marketing Meltdown) about the future of real estate very interesting. It's from RISMedia by Mike Long, CEO of Move, Inc, (see following URL) - whether you trust Realtor.com, Allen Dalton, or whomever, the article from this issue of RISMedia were interesting and thought-provoking.

Blogging on this site should more than just points. I see people putting up ads on their listing or asking a simple question etc. I personally feel that this should be used in such a way as to increase the knowledge of those reading them. What do you think.

I agree on the blogs.  I see new members introducing themselves via blog - which should be in the Forum section for Introductions.  Questions should also be posted in the Forum section.  Listings/ads should not be in the blogs. ActiveRain may or may not want to provide a separate place for this, but please, not in the blogs.

I feel, in time, the newbies will come to understand what this forum is all about.   When I see something inane, and there is plenty of that still, I click the "NO" button for interesting?  I encourage others to as well.

Mike Long's speech you reference is the one he gave to the NAR Directors and officers at the Mid-year meetings in Washington this past April.

It was too long then and too long now.

If NAR ever has the opportunity to get control of Realtor.com back from move it should be operated as a simple, free site for all members with ALL our listings displayed.

This is what a "kinder, gentler" Realtor.com could look like.

Notice no "featured homes", no ads for anyone, just useful, consumer friendly homes for sale information.

Questions are good for the general edification as well.  Consider the fact that smart people often offer good advice to questions posted on this forum, resulting in an increased knowledge for anybody who reads the post and the comments....you could probably learn something too.  Just a thought.  Nobody's perfect.

The Germans would say Standpunkt or standpoint..Everyones starting point is different and with all new technology there is a learning curve.  Sure it may not be the place for the ads but at least they are getting started.  I guess my Standpunkt is they are giving it a go.  Like the person who writes the low ball offer which is ridiculous we still thank them for taking time to write the offer it was better than the one we got yesterday which was none.... and we can always counter.
