Carolyn Smith, Realtor – Things to Do in Brevard County, Florida: Visit One of the Many Fun Festivals Scheduled for This Weekend!

It’s going to be a busy weekend for those of us who live on the beautiful Space Coast of Florida… there so many fun festivals scheduled for the weekend of April 28 – 29! Here’s a quick list of this weekend’s festivals, then I will go into detail below: Melbourne Art Festival in Historic Downtown Melbourne, Cocoa Beach Food and Wine Festival at Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach, and theSpace Coast Seafood Festival at Space Coast Stadium in Viera. Also, theVietnam Traveling Memorial Wall is on display in Wickham Park in Melbourne through April 29th. There is definitely a great variety of “Things to Do in Brevard County, FL” this weekend!

Melbourne Art Festival: The Melbourne Art Show is held annually in Historic Downtown Melbourne, Florida, and this year’s show will be held on Saturday and Sunday, April 28 & 29. Festival hours will be from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm on both days. The Melbourne Art Festival is a nationally recognized event featuring over 250 of the finest artists in the country. There will be a huge variety of high quality, handmade art that will appeal to many different tastes and budgets.

The Melbourne Art Festival will be set up along New Haven Avenue in Historic Downtown Melbourne. During the two days of the Art Show, New Haven Avenue is closed to vehicular traffic, so patrons can comfortably stroll down the street, browsing the artists’ tents and booths. The 250 juried artists will be displaying their paintings, photography, pottery, graphics, jewelry, sculpture, and more on both sides of the street, including some of the side streets, so there will be plenty of arts and crafts to keep you browsing all morning or afternoon. Admission to the Melbourne Art Festival is free; check the event’s website for more details: Melbourne Art Festival 2012

Cocoa Beach Food and Wine Festival: This one-day event will be held on Saturday, April 28th from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach. The festival will feature delicious foods from over 20 local Space Coast restaurants, including some of my favorites like Continental Flambe, Chart House, Green Room Cafe, Petty’s Meat Market, and lots more. Professionally selected fine wines will accompany the food tastings, which run from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Live music and entertainment will begin at 5:30 pm.

Tickets to the Cocoa Beach Food and Wine Festival are $20 if you purchase online in advance, or $25 if you purchase at the gate. Children under 12 years old will are allowed to enter the festival for free. In addition to the food and wine sampling that is included with your admission ticket, food and wine will be available for purchase from the restaurant vendors. Check the event’s website for more details: Cocoa Beach Food and Wine Festival

Space Coast Seafood Fest: This event started last weekend, and will continue through this weekend, ending on Sunday night. The Space Coast Seafood Fest is a family event, with tons of food (both seafood and non-seafood options, as well as traditional fair food), arts and crafts, lots of live entertainment, culinary demonstrations, carnival/thrill rides for all ages, bull riding shows, motocross stunt shows, crab races, and more. Unlimited rides and all of the entertainment is included with the cost of admission. In addition to the festival, our local minor league baseball team, the Brevard County Manatees, will be playing against the Tampa Yankees on April 27th and the Clearwater Threshers on April 28th, with both games starting at 6:35 pm. They will also be playing Clearwater at 5:05 pm on April 29th.

Admission to the Space Coast Seafood Festival is $10 Monday – Thursday, and $12 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Parking is $5. Tickets for the baseball games are sold separately for $7. Festival hours are 5 pm to 11 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; 5 p.m. to midnight on Friday; noon to midnight on Saturday and noon to 10 pm on Sunday through April 29th. Check the event’s website for more details: Space Coast Seafood Festival

Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall: On display until April 29th at Wickham Park in Melbourne, the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall is a 3/5 scale of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington DC. The Traveling Wall is six feet tall at the center and covers almost 300 feet from end to end. The wall stands as a reminder of the sacrifices made by so many Americans during the Vietnam War. The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall provides the opportunity for people to remember and honor all of those who served and lost their lives during the Vietnam War. It is very special for those of us in the Melbourne, Florida area to have the opportunity to experience a wonderful replica of the Vietnam Memorial without having to make the trip to Washington DC.

The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall is on display in honor of the annual Vietnam and All Veterans Reunion, and will be on display at Wickham Park in Melbourne through April 29th. There is no cost to visit the wall. Check the website for additional details: Florida Veterans Reunion

There are so many great festivals and “Things to do in Brevard County, Florida” this weekend! I hope my list helps you find something fun and exciting to do!
