Under investigation. Blogger Barbara gets visited by the Super Sleuths.....

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Advantage

I was put on the spot!

Searcy Super Sleuths came to visit.

I met them at Doc's Grill and got grilled myself!  This picture shows how serious they can be about their history.

Searcy super sleuths

From the right is Harold Gene Sullivan from Searcy originally but now living in Seattle.  Next is Bob Fuller, the better half of our beloved Anita "Tart" Hart Fuller who is next in the picture.  Then we find the man who can do anything, Don Thompson, and beside Don is Carolyn Sullivan.  None of them still live in Searcy but have fond memories of the OLD Searcy when they could walk from one end to the other in about 5 minutes.  Well, except Carolyn who is not from Searcy originally but dutifully comes to visit yearly.

It was a good visit!  Hope I passed their test!

See!  I told you Don can do anything.  He photoshopped me into that picture!  Why couldn't he photoshop and make us all teenagers again!

Wow!  What a crew!!  I'm expecting some really, really good blog posts to come out of this pow wow.  Would love to have been there to hear all those Searcy memories being batted around.  Course, I probably would have had to correct a few.  LOL..  What a fun time that must have been!

I'm so glad you posted pictures of the Searcy Slueths.  They are an amazing group of people.  I wish we could have met them in person.  I was a little out of it yesterday, I even missed my lunch date.  We are new grandparents.  Woohoo!  The very first GIRL!  4:30 AM yesterday 8 pounds 8 ounces 21 inches long.  She is currently in the hospital with an infection...so those who believe in prayer add Catelynne Marie to your list...I was on the phone all day (I couldn't be still to anxious for words) and shipped a box of PINK so the GIRL can be dressed appropriately...SMILES!  She is showing signs of improvement but they need to pin point the infection to be sure.

I can't believe I missed an opportunity to meet Ms. Anita...ya'll need to do this more often...smiles...Luke talks about Mr. Don all the time...I think you are right...he can do anything...you might need to be prepared...he just might figure out how to make you all look like teenagers again...haha!

Thank you Searcy Slueths for providing information that makes for a wonderful blog!  We enjoy visiting virtually and hope one day to meet you all personally.    Keep Sluething, from Debbie and Luke

Thank you, Ms. Debbie for the kind words. I haven't forgotten about having Luke visit the Catacombs.

Tell him real soon now.

Billy, so just why were you not there?  We could have had dinner music!!  LOL

Debbie, what nice words for all of us!  I want you to remember me when you decide to sell your house and move to the town where the new baby (girl!) lives.  You have had no experience with girls and it would be a whole new experience for you!  However, I'm getting to know all your boys better and I don't want you to leave.  Congratulations on the new grandchild.

Great idea, Barbara, to have Bill provide dinner music next time!!!

We had a wonderful time, always do.  Nothing like friendships formed in the good old days.  I don't think we ever convenced Gene exactly where the Park Avenue Apartments were, at the site of the original Wakenight Sanitorium.

We'll do it again, and give others a little more notice.  Wish you could have joined us, Debbie and little Luke.

Ya'll are welcome and deserving...

Ms. Barbara...Thanks...Yes, having a GIRL in our family is unheard of...but you can tell that we are not overly prideful or anything...haha...the Daddy has told us that if we come out we have to move there and stay...I don't see that happening...but you know that you are our personal real estate agent...right?...there can be no other...make sure that Ms. Valerie is fully trained before you ever even consider retiring...

Mr. Don...no worries...Luke was excited that you would even consider...I think we all have had lots of things on our plates since the time we met for lunch...

Look forward to the next meeting of the GREAT MINDS and Historians of Searcy...It will be an honor and a pleasure to listen and learn...ya'll are an amazing group together.

To all the Sleuths who didn't get in this picture!!  And there are lots more.  I did not mean to imply that these were the only sleuths.  We have several more.  I could start naming but might leave someone out.  These were the sleuths in town that day!  And they are tough....they can solve almost any puzzle regarding old Searcy AR.  But probably only Don can put a picture together and include an additional body!  Don may need to work on a composite of ALL of the sleuths.......

Great idea, Barbara.....now you've given Don his next project.  But some of the sleuths will have to send him their picture....

Mary, I can't substantiate this....it's just my memory of what mother has said:  the very first Wakenight Hospital was on Spring St. - sorta in front of the lst Baptist Church (although the entrance to lst Baptist wasn't on Spring)...guess it was just a big house.  When it was torn down I don't know but the Park Avenue Apartments were built by Fern Rodgers on that site.    someone else needs to help us out here.  I haven't looked in Dr. Muncey's book so will do that asap.  I'll also ask some of my buddies (who aren't official Sleuths but who can help me out sometimes)....

Anita, he can do it.

Mary, I'm not getting into this argument about where the Wakenight house was.  You all just duke it out.

Anita, Muncey's book won't tell you tmuch about the Wakenight Hospital or sanitorium.

Here's the pic of Searcy's first hospital from the book. How about that big covered entrance.

I have consulted two friends who will also consult with some older Searcy residents who will straighten us out.  In the meantime: my friends confirm what I've always thought:  the first Wakenight Sanatorium (hospital) was her home, on Spring Street.   Later she moved to the Woodruff St. house (as in Don's picture)....and that was the beginning of the Porter Rodgers Hospital..   It now makes sense that Dr. Rodgers bought the original house on Spring, and that is where Mrs. Rodgers built the apartments.

NOW:  how many remember Dr. Harrison had a small hospital which was where the College Church of Christ is NOW?  I didn't, but my friends did and when I went to Dr. Muncey....there it is, in black and white. (not a picture, but the words in the book!)  How many of our little "disagreements" could be solved faster if we consulted Dr. Muncey.  Having said that, though, it's not half as much fun as arguing and reminiscing...

Remember my story mother told:  she was a teenager, crossing the (dirt) street going to Dr. Tapscott's office because of a sore throat.  He was passing by in his car, she hailed him down and told him she was headed to his office.  He preceeded to stop right there in the street, looked in her throat, diagnosed strep throat(my guess) and swabbed her throat with iodine....all from the front seat of his car, and mother standing on the running board.

that is an excellent example of Searcy in the GOOD OLD DAYS.

Don and Anita, good work.  Thanks. And I love your mother's story, Anita.

Don, you scanned that picture.  Did you have trouble uploading it?  I am still having that problem.

Sad I missed this get-together. I think that was the day I had to drive to El Dorado, though - so no chance I could have made it.
