Where's the Flag?

By
Real Estate Agent with Century 21 Absolute Realty RS284559

When I was young my mother had many purple and gold/white “flags” in her garden.
When I got older “flags” took on a new name.
Did you call Iris flowers flags years ago?

Hi David, Maybe it is and east coast thing, like going to the shore instead of the beach.

Hi Mark, Yep it must be an east coast or Philly thing.

Thanks for stopping by.

I always called them irises. A couple years ago, I almost used what I thought were green onions in my garden, but luckily I didn't because a few days later they blossomed into irises. Shows how much I know about them. Your photo is beautiful!

Gloria and Doub,

I didn't call them flags, but I did think fairies lived underneath their beautiful purple capes that draped over them so I couldn't see them. Several neighbors had their front gardens filled with purple lilies and I was always fascinated by them.

I have a painting of purple lilies in my dining room. I just love them and your photo is magical and beautiful!

Gloria,
I've not heard the Iris's called flags.  I wonder if it depends on where in the country you lived.  I was born and raised in California.

Gloria, I never heard them called flags, either.  Have to say I can see where the name comes from when these are blowing in the wind.

Hi Gloria,

It seems like my mother may have called them flags and she was from Tennessee. She loved all flowers but pansies and geraniums were her favorites. I like what Ed said..... a true salesperson who will just agree . I bet his buyers really like him.

I hadn't heard the term, "Flags" used with Iris, since my childhood days.  Like Kristin, my mother used the term.  We had loads of those in the backyard of my childhood home.  Looking at your picture takes me back decades to another time.
